3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Jet black with a little brown at bottom. Head leaves lacing. Smell is chocolate oak, booze. Some sips start of chocolate in a moose whipped cream kinda way then a burst of whisky/booze then a little oak taste and a cola like finish. A big burst of hop bitterness and gone as well on some sips. Other sips no oak taste and some warmth. The porter was FREE for me but heard it was around $16 USA for it. Is it really a pricy porter? Not the worst or best porter I had. cheerís!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Nice chocolate aroma with some dark roasted grain, nice full body, mostly sweet taste, and flavors of artificial chocolate, like a tootsie roll or something. Sweet notes from bourbon but no real booze notes.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
Iíve only had a handful of porters that actually impressed me and usually find the style to be completely worthless and just make me want to drink a stout instead of a watery thin porter. At $18 a bottle I was cursing myself why I fell for a porter again but shockingly i was pleasantly surprised by this! This is the creamiest porter Iíve ever had and tons of rich chocolate, vanilla and bourbon come through. Top 3 porters Iíve ever had for sure and may even consider buying again even though it is outrageously priced.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
650 ml. opens with a big nose of vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Pours an unclouded deep mahogany with a lasting ring of cream. Tastes of chocolate, vanilla, toffee, whiskey and toasted pecan. Some toasted oak in the long finish. Medium body is definitely to the sweet side, but never gets sticky and finishes with a delicate balance. Mostly smooth, medium carbonation is a nice touch.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draft at Tap 25. Iím a little surprised at the high ratings for this one. Iíve really liked a lot of the Caldera beers Iíve had, but this one was just a touch rough. It pours a dark reddish brown with a khaki head. The aroma is heavy on chocolate and vanilla with a little toast. Sweet. The flavor is the same with lots of cocoa and vanilla, but a bit of a weird green apple alcohol thing going on that throws it slightly off for me. Thick velvety body with a nice chocolate finish. Maybe some slight notes of acetaldehyde and alcohol. Tasty, but a little off.

Pours a very dark brown, with a nice tan head. Wonderful aroma of chocolate and oak. Taste is slightly sweet, with notes of malt, chocolate, oak, and coffee. Smooth and very nice to sip. Thumbs way up on this one.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a 22oz bottle.
Aroma has a definite English character to it with quite a bit of dark fruit esters including plum and prune. Some light tobacco and leather notes also present. Medium chocolate character with hints of alcohol and caramel.
Pours dark brown but not quite black with a medium thick tan head that has pretty nice retention and slowly recedes to the edges where it lingers. Medium light lacing and medium sized legs.
Flavor has a moderate sweetness to it with a ton of chocolate character. Light tobacco and leather with medium light dark fruit. Light caramel and toasted bread rounds out the malt notes. Faint alcohol spice in the finish.
Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with medium carbonation but slightly watery in the finish. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall a pretty nice porter with a lot of chocolate character. Its difficult to drink this and not want a big, richer stout though so I had to keep reminding myself that it was a porter. Pretty easy to drink, even on a hot day.
