4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown with mahogany notes and a light brown head. Aroma is a toasted malt with robust chocolate notes, almost like a tootsie roll. Flavor is a heavy malty chocolaty sweetness with a mild toasted malt bitterness. Light to medium in body with a lingering chocolatey sweetness in the finish. Very drinkable and tasty porter.

Bottle @ Steve’s house, courtesy of Steve. Thanks! Pours a dark brown appearance with a light brown head. Rich cocoa, dark chocolate, marshmallow, a bit woody aroma. Creamy chocolate, somewhat earthy, milk chocolate, a touch boozy, oaky, somewhat herbal flavor that finishes with a bit of vanilla and plenty of chocolate. Pretty good

For the price on this puppy, I guess my expectations were just a bit too high. Sure it’s a decent impy porter, but the bourbon masks most of the chocolate notes and it just didn’t seem like it was worth the $18 pricetag. Maybe with some age, this will mellow out and develop a little more. But right now, you could just pour yourself a ten fidy (which is a much better base beer imo) water it down a little to get it to the consistency of a porter, and then add a splash of old crow and you’d end up with about the same thing for about a 1/4 of the cost.

Bottle pours dark brown-black with thin tan head. Aroma heavy chocolate and malts. Taste dark chocolate and cocoa. Bitter finish of oak and unsweetened chocolate. Palate full, a bit thin. I didn’t get much bourbon taste, mainly the chocolate and oak.
