3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle:   Super deep garnet, mainly a dark brown otherwise.   Large pillowy light beige head, nice lacing.   Soft chocolate nose, slight brownie.   Not getting any barrel aging or oak on the nose.   Similar tongue, chocolate but not too sweet, with a bit more noticeable bourbon/oak on the tongue, albiet very weak.   Body and mouthfeel are straight up moderate, almost a bit weak.   Finishes with a bunch of what I would say are cocoa nibs.   Decent, but not earth shattering.   A touch dry, like powdery dry.

Bottle at DBS. Smelled of coffee and chocolate. Tasted pretty much the same, but it had a little too much bitterness to it. Still pretty damn good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle. Dark brown with a creamy beige head. Smells like vanilla extract and chocolate egg cream with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Smooth medium body with a tang. Taste is chocolate syrup, cane sugar and oak finishing with welcome bitter black coffee. Where’s the bourbon? Too much unrefined sugar but good for dessert.

Picked up a bottle from the tap house in Ashland.
Great pour, a finger of tan head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is all chocolate. It smells great though.
The taste is chocolate throughout. There’s a mild bitterness and the chocolate avoids being too sweet. Great balance and complexity.
Smooth texture, low carbonation and medium body.
A really nice porter, especially if you like chocolate.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle from Belmont Station. Distributed this year, alleluia!
A: A black brick in my glass with a fuzzy head that diminshes to foam. Glass looks like it was attacked after a swirl.
N: Chocolate, hershey’s syrup, fudge, chocolate, more chocolate. A hint of vanilla and caramel. Oak is faint. Did I mention chocolate? Not complex, but..chocolate!
T: Baker’s chocolate, fudge, oaken dryness, chocolate syrup. There’s a distinct pepperiness here. Vanilla. This really quite drying. Earth and some leather. Coffee roastiness.
M: Very filling. Alcohol detracts a bit.
O: An accomplished beer that I believe deserves a wide audience. This will likely get better as the hoppy pepperiness fades. Right now, it acts as a nice balancing agent.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bakers chocolate, cocoa powder, roasted malts, oak, and light bourbon. Pours dark brown, tan creamy head. Flavors of chocolate, cocoa powder, roasted malts, oak, dry woody notes, light sweet bourbon brown sugar and light alcohol. Only complain might be the body is a little thin but this was a wonderful use of chocolate in beer. Really really solid and enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours an extremely dark brown with a moderate tan head. Nose has some slight roasting and a lot of chocolate in there. Taste has a fair amount of chocolate in there, but manages not to be sweet. Awesome.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Deftim 13 as a part of free beer week. Thanks Tim! It pours a dark brown color with a small, tan head. The nose has notes of dark chocolate and chocolate milk. Smells great. The flavor is a nice mix of chocolate, dried fruit, raisins, and light oak. Nice body with a medium mouthfeel and a lasting finish. Quite tasty!
