4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Picked up a bottle from the tap house in Ashland.
Great pour, a finger of tan head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is all chocolate. It smells great though.
The taste is chocolate throughout. There’s a mild bitterness and the chocolate avoids being too sweet. Great balance and complexity.
Smooth texture, low carbonation and medium body.
A really nice porter, especially if you like chocolate.

Shared bottle at Rose and Crown. Massive chocolate with moderate vanilla aroma. Slightly hazy brown with khaki head of large bubbles. Moderate chocolate and slight boozy vanilla taste. Moderate bitterness and finishes with sweet chocolate.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, light oak, and light dough. Flavor the same with a nice blend of the 3 main components. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, sent by my good pal Toby in a sweet trade. Thanks man! A darker brown pour topped with a creamy finger of brown head. The nose is to die for; vanilla, milk chocolate, light roast, and espresso. Decadent. Creamy mouthful of sweet milk chocolate with just the right amount of barrel coming through. Very light on the bourbon and faint vanilla. The oak and roast really provides a sturdy balance to the sweetness. Reminds me of a really good chocolate chip cookie. Top notch brew. One of the best barrel-aged brews I’ve had in a while. I wish I would have shared this, but at the same time polishing off the bomber solo over the course of a couple hours wasn’t all bad.

Pours a very dark brown with a big fluffy khaki head. Lots of chocolate on the nose, super roasty coffee, a little oak, a little maple, caramel, and nice toasted malt. Wow really nice vanilla and mocha flavors on the taste, slight bourbon and caramel, nice milky chocolate, oak and toasted malt. Super tasty beer, just enough bourbon for this and I love the chocolate flavor.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared at the Foothills Sexual Chocolate pre-release party. Plenty of chocolate malt with vanilla extract sweetness. Not much woody notes, but there’s a prickliness that accents the chocolate well.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured dark with a thin head. Aroma features cocoa. Taste is dominated by powerful dark cocoa flavor.
The cocoa flavor is almost over the line, approaching cocoa powder, but manages to avoid the line.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle poured a very deep brown in color with a thin coating of tan head that fell right back to a ring on the glass. Aroma has chocolate, mild barrel wood, some sweetness, nuts, and nice supporting malts. Mouth feel is medium with a silky coating and low side carbonation. Flavor has a well malted core, mild roasts, chocolate light barrel wood, touches of hops, and a bit of oat like smoothness. I appreciate that even being an imperial in the style that the alcohol is under control and the whole thing is so smooth and well rounded. As a fellow lab lover I raise a glass to Mogli who looks to have been well loved.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Dawson’s while home in MD for the holidays. A pricey pne at $23. Pours dark brown to black with a half finger of khaki colored head. Big sweet aroma of chocolate, anise, dark fruits, tootsie rolls. Flavor is rich a chocolate up front and then explodes into what can only be described as chocolate milk with a massive amount of Hershey’s syrup in it. The chocolate is crazy up front here. The is a lingering chocolate covered raisin flavor on the palate as well. No oak or bourbon to speak of whatsoever. Starts out thick and rich up front and thins out a bit later in the palate with lowish carbonation. Definitely unique and the most chocolate I have encountered in a beer. If you are looking for chocolate, this is right on. Good stuff.
