Clear orange, big foamy white head. Aroma of citrus and mild resin. Taste is smooth citrus, not too bitter or sweet. Very smooth texture and carbonation. Short bitter finish.

Can. Pours a nice clear gold in glass. Aroma is citrusy, grassy, a little spicy. Palate crisp and very light . . . almost too much so. Flavor starts with strong hop notes, throws a dash of malt in the middle, finish is fairly bitter for a Pale Ale. Another bold beer from Caldera.

(Sample Date: 8/2/2009 Source:Other) Nice big citrusy floral hop nose with some graininess. Clear light orange golden with a foamy white head. Clean crisp citrusy floral hops pop. Grainy sweetness to back. Finish is clean and crisp for a ale.

20100106 12oz can from State Line. Clear, dark golden with small, quick white head. Aroma is perfumy, floral, citrusy. Palate is a bit thin, very mild bitterness, but a bit of a scraping astringency on an otherwise somewhat watery ending. Taste is fine, fairly generic NW pale ale. Of the three Caldera beers I tried, this was my least favorite.

Bottle; poured a really clear gold/amber color with a white head. Aroma of NW hops and a bit of bready caramel. A lot of fruit, citrus/spice, and earthiness in the nose. Flavor was not quite as good as the aroma, but quite tasty and hoppy. Very nice for the style.

12 oz. can from Scrizzz. Slight haze on this yellowish/orange treat. Nice fluffy head that sticks around for some time, but eventually settles. Wow, this is a fiarly pungent brew. For an APA it is a little weak, but the aroma has a strong hop and malt balance. Sweet malt and citrus hop aroma. Hops are very pungent. This beer is pungent overall. Ok, the flavor is a little weak. There is upfront citurs hop flavor, but then this thing just develops into a sweet malt flavor. Actually a fairly sweet APA. Not a "bad" flavor by any means, just something I wasn’t expecting for sure. Again, just a rather weak flavor, but this beer has a STRONG balance between malts and hops. Decent brew, and very glad to have tried this unexpected brew.

My very first Caldera was a can of Ashland Amber, which I thought was pretty fantastic. This one, a nice sharp APA, fell a bit short of the high bar set by the amber. Pours a glowing translucent golden orange with a thin but lasting white head. Smells very citrusy was a fresh resiny undertone. Flavor is sweet (overly so) then twists around to a bitter hop blast and dries out near the finish.

Can thanks to bhensonb in a superior trade! Aside form the can with the groovy green pull tab, this is one that I liked more than I was expecting. It poured a hazy yellow with a slight orange cast. A light yellow head presented a hoppy nose hinting at its dry finish yet to come. Initial hops ran quickly to a citrisy orange flavor which then gave way to a slightly astringent black tea finish. Nicely balanced malt body makes this one a keeper. Drinking lots of great big beers makes me forget what a treat a well made pale ale can be.
