A solid porter. Deep mahogany appearance. Mild roasted aroma. Thick tan head. Taste is thinner than I would’ve expected, but it has some pleasant nuttiness.

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2014 Can. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma: chocolate milk, roast, coffee, toffee. Taste: coffee, roast, chocolate, tobacco, toast, molasses. Light-medium sweet, medium bitter, slightly salty, a bit watery yet creamy (?), long roasty finish. Too much ’chocolate milk with cold coffee’ taste for my liking.

Appearance: dark brown, ruby edging, medium tan head, minor lacing. Aroma: lightly roasty, with dark chocolate, toffee, espresso, hint of hazelnut. Taste: bittersweet dark chocolate, light chalk, some vanilla and caramel, with a bit of coffee and toasted nuts. Finish: smooth and dry, with a hint of light piney bitterness. Notes: Perfectly decent porter. Balanced flavors, palate on the lighter side.

Bottle @ home. Dark brown color, full sized light brown head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts, a hint of caramel, lightly nuts, lightly leaves and a slight roasty hint. Taste malts, lightly roasty, a touch of caramel, lightly chocolate, slightly sweetish raisins, slightly bitter hint towards the end. Medium body, soft but lightly fizzy, suitable carbonation.

Can at home. Pours very dark reddish brown with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, mocca, and coffee. Sweet taste of roasted malts, caramel, coffee, and chocolate, bitter roasted aftertaste. Maybe a bit watery.

(Caldera Pilot Rock Porter) Can 355 ml at home, poured into a small snifter. ABV 6% Totally black in colour, good sized beige head, thick, with good retention, leaving light lacing around the glass. Aroma of liquorice, light roasted malts and chocolate, coffee. Taste is fruity, with grapes and some berries to my surprise. Quite sweet at first, then roasted malts are entering the scene, some dark chocolate as well, offering a bitterness, mild, but enough to balance things. Medium body, a bit high on the carbonation. Very good beer, the fruity notes a pleasant surprise.

Pours a dark colour. Aroma and taste of coffee and roast malts, creamy texture, liquorice on the palate. Very rich. Cheers Mike1977
