Caldera’s Toasted Coconut Chocolate Porter will never cut corners. You’ll taste the love with every sip. Real, hand-toasted coconut chips are complemented by pure natural chocolate, creating this complex porter. Smooth and velvety with a pronounced coconut-chocolate aroma, flavor and finish. Huli Pau!

Bottle from Biernavigatie, large sample. Slight hazy brown color, medium frothy head. Aroma of slight coconut, some roast, caramel, bit milk or white chocolate, slight smoke. Taste has some roasty bitterness, bit sweet mik chocolate, slight tartish coconut milk. Quite dry in the finish. I like it even more creamy and bounty candybar like, but still very enjoyable.

Bottle at home. Pours reddish brown with a fizzy beige head. Aroma of chocolate milk, roasted malts, maybe just a hint of toasted coconut in there. Taste is over moderate sweet and moderate bitter, chocolate, roasted malts, some toasted coconut, milk chocolate roasted aftertaste. Bit thin, too much carbonation. Expected more.

Poured from bomber into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown, nearly black, color with a one finger head of cream colored foam. The head has a nice level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a great showing of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell –The aroma is big of very strong and nice milk chocolate smell mixed with some other aromas of caramel and roasted malt. While this brew is touted as a coconut porter, the toasted coconut is just a light backdrop smell. But even with that said, with the mix of stronger aromas and a lighter toasted coconut and a little bit of vanilla, one is left with a very enjoyable and inviting aroma overall. Taste-The taste begins with a mix of a toasted malt flavor with a good showing of a darker chocolate flavor. There is a bit of vanilla upfront, which grows stronger as the taste advances and which is also joined by a bit of a toasted coconut flavor which also gets stronger as the taste advances. All the while, the taste sweetens a bit with some flavors of caramel and molasses also hitting the flavor profile. At the end, a little bit of cream and some light grain comes to the tongue, all while a little bit of the sweet and coconut fade ever so slightly, leaving one with a rather smooth, modestly sweet, but very chocolaty and toasted taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the rich chocolate, roasted, and toasted flavors of the brew the feel is fantastic and makes for a very enjoyable drinker overall. Overall – This was a very flavorful but not overly sweet and cloying chocolate porter. I rather enjoyed this brew and would certainly recommend it to others, especially those who like darker brews.

Thank you Dutchdrebus! 650 ml. bottle sampled @ ZZT 2016-1. Dark red amber, creamy tanned head. Nose is chemical, thin vegetable, cacao, boring herbal, thin & fizzy, umami. Taste is thin, very fizzy, poor herbal stout / porter, thin, fizzy, vegetable, umami, coconut is barely there & a bit chemical. Very thin & herbal. Very poor for the style & ingredients. I don’t get the love on here.
