3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, Sainsburys. Nice deepish amber colour, good white head. Quite full bodied, good balanced malt/hop flavours, although I was expecting it to be a bit hoppier. Nice brew tho!

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Lively, clear golden beer with a thick frothy head which quickly dissipates. There’s citrus in the aroma but also a sour, almost metallic twang to it. Flavour has a zesty hit with a touch of light grapefruit. The same slightly unpleasant bitterness from the aroma is there as well. Aftertaste is light with a very slight touch of lemon and a sort of biscuity mouthfeel. Not very nice.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle from Home Bargains - Pours a deep amber colour with a huge, foamy white head. Sweet aroma, with a mix of butterscotch and vanilla and a hint of fruit. Quite sweet and buttery in the taste with some sweet malts, toffee and some light hops as well. Thick palate with a dry and creamy feel with a low to mild carbonation and a mildly bitter finish. Quite okay I suppose.

Bottle. Gold body. Thin white head. Nose is butterscotch, spice, grass, red fruit, sulphur, nutty. Sherbet. Roast beef. Dirty water. Bittersweet with a bitter finish. Some dirtiness on the palate.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from Vino Wines. Clear amber body with a thick white head. Steady carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma of earth, biscuit and sorrel. Flavour of grass, earthy hops, butterscotch and a dull floral quality. Thin body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Soft fizz. There’s nothing imperial about this whatsoever. Although it’s not as bad as I thought it might be, I couldn’t finish the bottle.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours like a slightly darker lager with quite a large head. Smells fresh, grassy, slightly citrus. Tastes sweet, herby, cloves(?) and a very small hint of liquorice. Finishes sweet with just a hint of orange marmalade. Almost perfect mouth feel. Leaves you wanting more, more, more.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Off white head. Crystalline light gold colour. Dirty nose. Generic beer taste. A bit fizzy. A bit green to the taste. Pretty poor really. If this the best that Heineken can get from the Caledonian brewery then they really need to sell it to someone who cares because this is just unacceptable.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
500ml bottle at home, Sainsbury’s I think. Pours clear gold, thin white head. If there’s grapefruit in this I can’t find it behind the butterscotch. Honey malt flavours perhaps a hint of lemon. Sticky sweet finish. Not very nice. And as Jim Royle might say, "Imperial my arse!"
