Cask at Freehous Manchester. Small lace of foam. Deep dark red color. Big sweet chocolate aroma. The chocolate also dominates the taste. A small but lingering bitterness is also present.

Malty sweet, chocolate, cappuchino. The usual Caledonian diacetyl butter feeling. Sweet finish, too, the claimed balance is not there.

(Cask at Penderel’s Oak JDW, Holborn, london, 25 Nov 2009) Dark ruby colour, almost black, with foamy beige head. Malty, creamy nose with coffee, milky chocolate and dark fruit. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark fruit, roasted nuts, coffee with milk, chocolate and a hint of tart berries. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. Medium bitterness, balanced sweetness. Nice and well balanced.

Pours deep chestnut brown with a small, creamy, off-white head. Aroma is sweet, light liqourice, softly roasted. Low carbonation, fine dry mouthfeel. Flavour is light ashy, roasted, liqourice. Long dry, lightly roasted finish with light chocolate notes.

Cask at Christian Firtal, Odense. Brown coloured with a nice light brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, grain and dark fruit. Soft texture. Watery/weak flavour with notes of oat, raosted malt and a dry finish.

Fruit and some roast aromas. Small beige head. Dark red coloured smooth on the palate hoppy fruity and a little sweet with a hint of dryness in a bitter oaty finish.
2. Cask Handpump at the Ring O’ Bells, Warrington 29/12/2010 (As Deep Dark Stout)
Some fruit and roast aromas. Dark coloured a little rich on the palate fruity and spicy with a liquorice flavour. A hint of dryness in a malt finish.
