Bottle; Pasteurised.
Flying Scotsman is a sophisticated full flavoured premium bitter beer combining the best barley from the north and robust southern hops. Profoundly malty in aroma but balanced with hints of raisiny spiciness and toasty dryness. Fresh, slightly citrus tang with a rich rounded finish.

500ml Bottle from Home Bargains:
Mild fruit notes and a hint of an almost metallic aroma mixed with some caramel and some sweet malts.
Reddish amber colour with a large, two-fingers tall head that is very creamy and thick looking as well as dome shaped.
Light caramel malts, some sweetness and a few earthy flavours along with a touch of fruit and a biscuit taste following this. This one taste much like I was expecting but is one that tastes pretty good.
Quite light bodied and fairly smooth with moderate bitterness and a crisp, sort of dry finish that goes down well and would make an excellent session beer.
Standard tasting bitter with nothing your not expecting but it is a nice one in spite of this. The body is a little light but it is very flavoursome, especially for the relatively moderate abv. and light body.

500ml bottle from Sainsbury’s. Amber brown colour, not much head. Toffee malt aroma & flavour, bitter aftertaste. Bottle better than cask but still very average.

500ml bottle from York National Railway Museum Shop. Copper amber colour, bubbly white head leaving lots of lacing and malty toffee aroma. Fizzy spicy bitter malt taste with lingering dry bitterness and a slight earthy toasted malt undertaste. OK.

500ml Bottle BBD 30 Apr 2013: poured into an Abbot Ale tankard @ home on 30 Dec 2012. Good amber looking beer: full head of off-white foam tops it of nicely. Malts lead the way in the aroma and taste: caramel semi-sweetness with a roasted/toasted unsweetened buicuity feel to the whole thing. Fairly crisp and almost sharp in the mouth: the malts however ensure this is a mostly calm malty brew and Iiked it. I’d have prefered more body depth and alcohol, but as a 4% ABV Bitter I suppose you can’t expect a rich, thick beer.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2013 Bottled 28/10/12. A classic brown coloured beer with a white head and lace. Very ashy and grainy in the nose. Dry in the mouth. A short finish ending with a bit of Caley sweetness. Exceptionally malty and very low hop quotient. An acquired taste. Score 2.6

Copper amber with a lacy thin white lasting head. Deep smell of caramel malt, plum, figs and light toasted malt. Defiantly smells better than the taste. Medium thin body. Tastes of malt and dried fruit. Slight stale skunky elements, lager cardboard bitterness. Almond and citrus finish. Not really special or good. Disbalanced

500 ml bottle poured into an outsize tulip. Dark amber with a thin white head.Juicy plum and cinder toffee aroma. Fruit and nut toffee, red berries, and spicy almond flavours. Gentle carbonation, and a rounded bitter finish. Quite assertive for a 4% bitter. Enjoyable.
