3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
27th August 2011
Gravicask at the Angel mini beer festival, Kelvedon. Clear amber beer, residual white head. Light semi dry palate with a little carbonation. Pale malt is noticeable but kept in check by fresh orangey hops and a little lemon. Trace of caramel in the back end. Dry finish. Not bad at all.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask, handpump @ The White Hart, Cheddar, Somerset.
Looks good; a shimmering, radiant, fiery copper with a dense, cappuccino foam atop that holds and frosts over the the glass. Sweet, nutty praline and bitter burnt sugar on the nose. Change pace for the palate as the first sip is all weedy hops, quite biting, peeking and bitter, with a finish reminiscent of acrid burnt sugar to defer. Quite malty sweet, no holds barred or contained, biscuity and bready. To credit it the praline of the aroma becomes pronounced after a few sips to be joined by some savoury, dried fruits like raisins and sultanas. Hops and malt donít quite meld. It pulls off the whole marching orders but is too heavy for a bitter. Couldnít do more than one!

.(cask @ coopers , rochester) Mundane Bitter , feels old fashioned in these exciting beer times. Traditional values can keep with the times and be vibrant too.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Cask @ Bertís Bar in Edinburgh. Pours a dark red-amber with a decent head. The nose has malt, maybe some cream. The taste has malt, cream and then soggy cardboard box. The palate is medium bodied, medium textured and it has a burnt malt astringent finish, which is quite unpleasant. Why do all their beers taste the same? And why do I keep trying them and hoping they will be different.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask at The Market Porter. Pale golden-amber beer. The aroma is lightly tart with a bit of peach/apricot fruitiness. Light cologne/woody aroma over a soft bready maltiness. Some sweet honeyish character with a rustic breadiness. Meh, kind of run-of-the-mill.
