COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Occasional - most recently August 2012.
Deep mahogany appearance. Superb creamy head, caramel and vanilla with a slight hop tang. Distinctive, creamy texture and full refreshing flavour. Merman XXX is impressively complex, with robust , interwoven malt and hop flavours that persist well past the last swallow.

Dark brown, mahogany colour. Aroma and taste both have a tart acidity like red fruits. Flavour also has sugary, caramel sweetness.

Pint at The Birtley Ale House. Dark brown with an off white head, which sadly wasnít "superb and creamy". No aroma. Strange combination of oxo and chocolate flavour, but watery and bland. You can probably guess I didnít like it.

Cask@Sir John Oldcastle, London. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some mild toasted notes along with quite floral and grassy bitterness. Flavour is fruity, wooden, floral, herbal and a bit caramelly as well. Pleasantly balanced.

Cask @ JDW Inverness 050812
Caramel brown, clear, off white creamy head, good lacing
Aroma - caramel malts, some hedgerow hops, no usual caley corn malt aroma here
Taste - Caramel malts, some fruity berries, touch of hedgerow hops, bit of dark toffee, yeast esters, after drinking a while I get more of this yeast taste which Iím not really liking
Palate - soft carb, medium body, smooth texture. Finish as main flavour, tail end bit more bitter, but those Caley corn malts are back...getting a faint hint of salt
Overall - It was quite good at first but after a while my opinion of the beer dropped and I started not to like it very much - just a 2.9

Cask, Standing Order, Edinburgh. A cracking beer, looked great, mid brown in colour, finger thick long lasting white head. Well balanced hop/malt flavours, and a good long finish! Lovely!

Cask by handpump at State Bar, Glasgow - clear amber, bubbly off-white head, caramel malty aroma, roasted malt, high carbonation, dry finish, bitter malty aftertaste

Cask @ The Henglerís Circus. Medium dark brown colour, good head. Mild grassy caramel malt aroma. Sour malt flavour. Bitter aftertaste. Fairly typical Caledonian bitter.

Aroma: Earthy, musty and malty.

Appearance: Clear, chestnut brown body with a thick, lasting beige head. No carbonation. Great lacing.

Taste: Chocolate and butterscotch flavours. Very malty and easy to drink. Gentle bitter finish.

Palate: Medium body with a slick, oily mouthfeel. No carbonation.

Overall: A lovely bitter - subtle and moreish.

Cask @ Lord Moon of the Mall. The pourís deep chestnut brown with a small off-white head. The nose is brown bread, light nut, berries and some twiggy earthiness. The taste is earthy, some light brown sugar. Bright notes of blackberry, some zesty pepper. Nutty malty body. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. This is actually pretty flavorful and well-rounded. By far the best Caledonian beer Iíve ever had (faint praise). OK!

Slight coffee aroma, and some in its taste but also weak bodied. Easy to drink.
