3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 imdownthepub (7473) - Banbury, - APR 10, 2010
Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Amber to copper with malted ovaltine head. Certainly a bitter flavour right from the off, but this is more from a sharp, dry malt than from outstanding hop notes. The hops give a light tea note, leafy, sun dried. There are some roasty notes within the malt, reasonably flavoured but didn’t really meet the specification within the name.

[Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading] Amber with a moderate white head. Smokey hints promise much, but they soon fade to leave a pleasantly bitter toffee and malt flavour. A very decent workmanlike beer.

Hand pulled cask at The Moon And Sixpence (JDW) Hatch End. Amber/ gold with a frothy off white head. Good body but seriously lacking in hops for an IPA intending to be different from mainstream British beers. Caramel and sweet malts dominate.

Cask conditioned handpump Saracens Head Daventry . A yellowy gold coloured beer with a white head and lacing. There is little aroma save for that tell tale Caledonian sweet toffee like note. Lemon, toffee and house yeast in the mouth together with some fudge notes. An odd beer which is not very pleasant.

Cask, handpump at The Penny Black, Bicester, Oxon, 18-04-10 Copper in colour, its a good looker, not brill but not bad. filmy white head. This is quite full flavoured, and easier to drink than the ABV might suggest. Its possibly not at its peak and the hoppiness soon gives way to the maltiness, bit I quite like it. A6 A4 F7 P4 Ov13 3.4

A Mes rate. Cask at Baker St ’Sporks. Clean golden brown with a thin off white head and plenty of lace. Bread and jam with a hintof dusky hops. Faint bitterness in the finish. Throughly unimaginative and uneventful.
