2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask at Bon Accord, Glasgow.
Dark charneol colour. Diacetyl dominates the aroma. Light bodied with a cidery-vinegary touch as well as butterscotch and lemon. Not the favourite beer of John Rebus.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask (handpump) at the Market Porter, Southwark. Mid copper colour. Seemed like a pretty typical Scottish style bitter to me - caramel/toffee malt, sweetish, smooth mouthfeel. Hints of nuts and stewed fruit. Maybe a touch of something herbal in there but it was too faint to hazard a guess as to what it was. Competent but not really my thing.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Cask at Bon Accord, Glasgow. Copper colour. Buttery aroma with ginger and cardamom. Sweet and medium bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Heavily spicy, but the flavuor dies quickly. Low bitterness. Much too sweet and unclean.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask@Market Porter. Copper colour, not much head. Aroma is caramel, malts and some slight sweetish nectary/wooden notes. Flavour is malts, sweet herbs and some fruity sweetness too. Leaves a sweet aftertaste.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught (Kingston Arms, Cambridge)
Rich nutty colour, no head. Aroma started a bit chocolatey, but became a bit mushroomy. Maybe kamatahvel. At first it appears a bit waterry, but there’s plenty of late hoppy taste, and also a good matly finish too. Nuttiness lasts the longest.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Cask gravity at GBBF 2007. Now I am a big Ian Rankin fan and I have a soft spot for Caledonian, so I really wanted this to be good. Chestnut colour beneath a thick beige head from a sparkler. Bit buttery/toffee. Some minerality and a bit of herb/spice. Poor. Some diacetyl.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask, Aikmans. Coppery orange with a hint of ruby tints. Thin beige head. Light carbonation. Nose is toffee and malt, some slight hop hints and caramel. Mouth is hoppy and some more toffee in there. Yeasty bready tones. There’s something there that’s been bothering me this entire pint. Finishes light and fruity. GRR, WHAT IS IT? Rather good though.
