Cask conditioned at The Old Thameside Inn, Southwark, London, Christmas 2004. Dark brown colour, moderate head. Malty and sherry-like aroma. Flavour is nutty, caramel, treacle. Decent. Finish is a bit watery.

Cask Dark chestnut; B.C. "H.". Sweet malts, bread, cacao powder. Nice hops!! Sporting an original flavour of holly leaves - appropriate! Ends wry, nearly tart. Dry-out effect! What is this? In the aftertaste, I get acorn, and yet again bitter cacao powder. Light to medium bodied. Nice beer, as light as it may be.

Hand pumped at the former Hogshead (now the Corner House), Birmingham. Reddish, with a creamy head. Quite nicely flavoured, but a little watery. Some nice ginger and spicy pud. Enjoyable, but not enough oooomph.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Head Of Steam euston. A mid brown coloured beer with some diacetyl in the sweet malty aroma. The taste has toffee, caramel and butterscotch notes. Quite drinkable.

Im a big fan of this fellow and didnt realise i havnt rated it yet. Cali’s usual style, however slightly sweet in a very nice way, goes down very easily. Going by the name i expected this to be about 6-7% however im not complaining with it being as low as 3.7 as it tastes good.

Cask, Dec 2007. Copper coloured, slightly cloudy, but with a good head. Scents of toffee malts. Carbonated, watery, with lots of sugar present, leaving a sticky mouthfeel. Moderately bitter with a dry end. Hoppy and honey present, but rather disappointingly bland. Served too cold.

Cask at the Windsor Castle, Notting Hill, 30th Dec 2007. Copper with an off-white head that subsides quickly. Hoppy aroma with a hint of liquorice. Taste has a definite herb character at first, then a good refreshing finish. Palate is a bit weak though. Enjoyable and drinkable.

Poured light brown with a beige head. Mild fruity aroma. Sweet malty cara taste with some light fruits. Dry in the finish. Medium bodied, easy drinking. Ok.

Any first impressions?
-A sheet of foam rests atop the reddish copper.
-Caramel maltiness reigns in an otherwise storyless aroma.
-Leafy hops and fruity caramel sweetness are politely introduced.
-The svelte body is very drinkable, and doesn’t show any thinness.

What if you dig deeper?
-Muscular leafy hop bitterness is smothered by a high caramel tide in the end.
-Competent balance is reached, but watery passages decrease my appreciation.
-Even though it lacked personality and substance, this was a nice pint of bitter.

On cask at the White Hart Inn, Edinburgh.
