Deep amber coloured, toasted nutty aroma with a spicy hop perfume. Sweet, nutty chocolate with a hint of malt in the aftertaste.

Tasted on tap at Thomson’s bar in Edinburgh. Looks flatter to deceive. Lovely golden colour, but very bland palate with absolutley no ginger registering with me. Lightly hopped finish but not worth it.

Cask @ The Abbey Inn, Kinloss
Amber, thin dense white head, moderate lacing.
Aroma - Typical Caley popcorny malt with some gingerbread biscuit.
Taste of light golden malts...gingerbread biscuit - ginger is subtle- I like this...then Deuchars IPA and that Caley malt again..
Palate..soft carb...finish same as main taste
Overall - I like the subtle ginger...good light gingerbread taste - but still that popcorny Caley malt.....I’d like a beer when they have the courage to get rid of that ’popcorn’ Caley aroma/flavour!...some poor ratings - perhaps I was lucky - the beer was top condition here.....

4.4% deep gold colour with a good head, toffee aroma, mild toffee and hop taste, I got no ginger at all but I did like it a lot.

Cask @ Troon Beer Festival 2011. Dry fagash malt aroma. medium brown colour, not much head. Dry cereal fruity malt flavour. Bitter aftertaste. A standard Caledonian bitter.

tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 14, 2011
Tasted this in the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) in October 2000. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thin creamy white head. Distinctive Caley aroma of soft lingering toffee notes and berry fruit. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a moist maltloaf base with silky butterscotch notes laced with syrupy raisin fruit. Slight citric note of hop resins in the short aftertaste but malt returns in the sweet malty finish with overtones of fruit and nut chocolate bar. Excellent session ale.

Cask @ 12th Ayrshire Real Ale Festival, Troon 2011. Clear copper colour, white head. Nose is bit of caramel, slight ginger. Slightly vegetable smell. Flavour is caramel malts, ginger, vegetables, slightly bitter finish. Really not that good.

Cask@Norwich Beer Festival ’07. One of Caledonian’s seasonal efforts only available in Oct and Nov this year. Its commercial description is fairly accurate. It was amber in colour with a very small bubbly head. Spice was very evident in the aroma. Smooth on the palate with a nice not overly sweet nutty taste. Pleasant.
