Not your traditional brown ale. This is a big, bad, bold brown. Itís the intersection of a cabernet and an IPA. Or, say, 19th and Broadway. A blend of three oaks added during fermentation creates a red wine-like structure. California Cascade hops bring the local flavor that goes from roasted and bitter on first swig to a soulful, chocolate finish. Generally speaking, not for wussies. But who are we to say?

Aromas of deep roasted malt, mild coffee, toffee, chocolate and tons of caramelized oak.. Mmmmm.. I love it... Loooong, lingering flavors of caramel, toffee, coffee, roasted nuts and roasted malt truly stain the palate for minutes... minutes!!! Medium-medium-plus bodied, good carbonation, with a nearly dry, kinda bitter finish. Well made. Hits the spot for a local brown ale. Thank you Calicraft!!! You earned my support. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

My favorite of three awesome new brews from Calicraft! It pours a dark reddish brown with a nice lasting tan head. The aroma strikes a great balance of red fruit, oak and roasted malt. Thereís also some distinct floral hops. The flavor has the same balance of oak and earthy/floral bitterness that is just about perfect. The roasted malt adds to the rustic feel with some earth, roast, cocoa and toffee. The finish is bitter and roasted with a medium to full body and mouthfeel. Iíll be picking up several bottles of this. Loved it.

Bomber from Hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Dark brown but with more amber than would be seen in a stout. A nice tan head that lasts. A really nice aroma is both pleasant and interesting. Cocoa and vanilla are in front. Those are also tasted. Citrus hops, too. This is kind of a robust porter / brown ale combination. Earth, dark and more bitter chocolate, and even a little bit of spice. A nutty finish was a pleasant surprise. This beer has a great way of moving flavors in and out. From oak to cocoa to citrus, etc. There is just so much going on in this beer and so many of those flavors are really nice. Feel is smooth and rich. This is like brown meets porter meets black IPA.

The bomber was shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat, Pours a dark brown with a foamy tan head and moderate lacing. Nose is chocolate and coffee. Medium body. VEry smooth mouthfeel. Some citrus appears in aroma, Flavor is very complex with oak, earth, and citrus showing up over the chocolate/coffee base. The finish is coffee bitter and dry with vanilla. Spice and nuts appear late. A very complex flavored beer overall with a lot to like here.

Bomber from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours dark brown with a creamy/foamy slight tan head. Aroma is chocolate over a typical brown roast malt. Med body. Flavor is woody chocolate? It is actually astringently oaky. The chocolate is dark, the oak is present, tho not overpowering, the drink is mostly dry, and definitely astringent. Amazing. I donít usually like brown ales very much, but dry astringent bitter is a winning combo.

A - Pours a fairly dark brown with a bit of orange mixed in and a finger of frothy slightly off-white head. The head fades at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of chocolate and caramel malts, brown sugar, dark fruits, and a bit of oak and vanilla. T - Starts off with some caramel and chocolate malts with a bit of dark fruit and vanilla. Through the middle, some coffee comes through with some brown sugar and a bit of wood. The finish is a mix of sweet caramel malts, wood, coffee, and a bit of dark fruit. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet and lightly fruity finish. D - Very drinkable. A bit light, but the flavors are nice and well balanced.
