Soft roast and bread nose with good lacing. Mildly lactic and acidic body. Mild acidic finish with an overly roasted character.

Draught, Calistoga Inn. Head is mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate syrup/milk). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Simple, uninteresting.

Draught at the brewery. Beer is opaque, dark brown with a small, frothy-creamy, light brown, diminishing-but-mostly lasting head.<P>The aroma is malty with moderate notes of husky roasted grain, sourish chocolate syrup, coffee; Hoppy with a light note of resin/pine, trace of vegetal alfalfa; Yeasty with a light note of basement, trace of garden soil.<P>The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, trace bitter with a longish, trace acidic, moderately sweet finish.<P>The body is medium-to-full, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively.<P> Too sweet and syrupy.
