2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20 BückDich (5468) - McCall, USA - MAR 4, 2006
Draught at the brewpub: Bronze, nose of light cascades and sour malt. The flavor is similar with tart, off-kilter malts. Not good at all. Husky, sour, blech.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 wetherel (1837) - Encinitas, California, USA - SEP 26, 2007
Draft at brewpub before my first QUAFF meeting. Woohoo! Amber color. Nice small bubble head. Middle of road sweetness. Very nicely done grapefruit hop bitterness. I think this beer is underrated, for whatever reason. Even I dropped it 0.1-0.2 to fit closer to the current ratings.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 RateandPillage (426) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JUL 18, 2005
Pours amber in color with a little white head. Little bit of caramel malt and lighter on both hop aroma and flavor than expected. Not enough body, and needs more (some) dry hops.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 fordest (1954) - Santee/San Diego, California, USA - JUN 12, 2005
Draft. Deep amber with a white head that lasted pretty long. Nice lacing for the whole glass. Aromas were a little weak, some floral and some citrus. Flavors were better, normal IPA flavors. Pretty good beer.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 papajohn (1238) - San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA - SEP 6, 2003
UPDATED: MAY 21, 2010 Took out a jug from the pub: Deep amber color with a small white head. Light sweet nose. Flavor is caramel candy sweet (maybe a tad too sweet) fading to a light hop bitterness and finishing with a tart grapefruit after taste.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Blake (396) - Orange, California, USA - MAR 13, 2003
Had on tap at Callahan's on March 12, 2003 After trying a few of the other beers on tap, I figured I'd try the one I'd probably like the most, the IPA. Probably the best locally brewed beer on tap, the IPA has a nice hoppiness with a good balance of malt. The beer is a dark brown color with a fair sized head, but what surprised me (and those around me) was the amount of lacing. As I drank, there were rings on down the beer from previous IPA levels - it looked quite beautiful actually when I was done. If you're going to go with a house beer (nice and cheap both during and after happy hour), the IPA is the way to go.
