   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 13/20
GoufCustom (970) - HONG KONG - FEB 2, 2015

330 ml bottle bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Looks: Cloudy hazy light golden colour with a layer of yeast sediments; Three-quarter finger head with crumpety white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Superb sticky lacing and near zero carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant and sweet Pilsener malt, with strong citrus, strong apricots, peaches, light floral, fairly light grains, strong honey, strong molasses, thick bread, strong yeast, lemon and light grass.

Taste: Mid to strong sweet Pils malt, with fairly strong grains, floral, faint peaches, strong molasses, earth, dry grainy bread, strong yeast, quite strong bitter hops, hop cones and very sharp grass.

Body: Medium body. Slick and very hoppy palate.

Mouth Feel: Quite good Pils malt body and with unfiltered yeast certainly adds more richness, quite grainy throughout. Strong but subdued molasses sweetness. Dry-bready and yeasty. The hops - Tettanger and Hallertauer Tradition - really comes through with formers earthy taste and later’s fragrant fruity hop aromas, turns this into a refreshing and fulfilling experience. Nice!

Hoppiness: Strong apricots, peaches, lager-style citrus, oral, honey and hop cones in nose. Earth, lemon, light floral and sharp grass in taste; Bitterness is quite strong, not quite the overt German Pils level but the grass is quite outstanding and hop-fruity for a lasting, mid-to-strong bitter finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Fairly rich and hop-fruity to mouth.

Comments: I will say this is a very convincing German Pils, with one foot into the Czech Pils territory because of its expessive Tettnanger and H. Tradition. The results is fruity to the nose, quite rich to mouth and expressively hoppy to the senses, without being overtly bitter. The tasty unfiltered yeast is a pleasant bonus. Love it!

Bottled@AIH40 (from bierzwerg.de). Hazy yellowish orange colour, small white head. Aroma is floral, grassy, herbal and mildly citrusy. Flavour is floral, some mild citrusy notes as well as a nice crispy maltiness to support the hops. Tasty and delicate Pils!

Cuso (5571) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - SEP 29, 2014
Bottle from Bier-Deluxe.de. Hazy Golden color with medium white head. Malty aroma with wort and grassy hops. Taste, sweet malt, wort, herbs, grassy hops. Light hoppy bitterness in malty finish. Not bad, but definitely not Bohemian Pilsner.

Bottle. Light golden, average and fully diminishing head. Light to moderate malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish aroma with faint caramel - bread and light grassy hoppyness. Body is light to medium, malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish, light bread and light grassy hoppyness. Finish is average, malty - lightly grainy and dryish - lightly sweetish, faint bread and light - some grassy/herbal hoppyness. OK pils with notes of bread - not too sweet, though.

bartlebier (2401) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - JUN 15, 2014
UPDATED: JUN 16, 2014 33cl bottle bb 12/2014, Getränke Stadelbauer Denzlingen. Landing somewhere between Bavarian Helles and mild (CZ?) Pilsner, but obviously hopped with natural herbal hops taking centre stage against a crisp and fresh malt background. Thinnish and sessionable. Would revisit regularly if priced more mildly as well.

Lahev: Unclear, pale greenish-golden, small white head, small lace, light to moderate dryish grassy and - unfortunately - papery nose; dry bitter-sweet flavour, light bodied and quite tart;shorter dry grassy finish - balancing pale malt hard to find. A Bohemian Pilsener? Ridiculous…
