Im Zuge der Gegenreformation rief der bayer. Kurfürst Maximilian I. Paulanermönche in sein Land.

Butelka 0,33. Aromat piernika, karmelu w smaku zdecydowanie toffi.

Smooth malty beginning. Fresh, sticky and quite malty sweet. The body is full but a bit sweetish-caramelized without too much bitterness. Smooth and sweetish aftertaste, sugary caramelly, sticky and full-bodied. Interesting.

Bottle 33cl, a cloudy amber beer with low brown head. Nose is on blond caramel, aroma is on grain malt, toasted caramel, biscuit, brown bread, light plum, yeast and dusty feeling.

330ml bottle bought at HK Brewcraft in Central.

Cloudy hazy ruby brown colour with a thin trace of yeast sediments; One quarter finger head and residual soapy white foam which fades in 15 seconds; Fairly good sticky lacing with very slight carbonation; Fragrant and sweet aroma of dark malt, with strong caramel, chocolate, toffee, strong plums, raisins, strong brown sugar, alcohol, bread, light yeast, thin lemon and light grass; Mid to strong sweet taste of dark malt, with strong caramel, toffee, chocolate, strong coffee sugar, alcohol, light yeast, light lemon and light bitter grassy hops; Mid to light body. Thin and boozy palate; Mouth feel is fair dark maltyness in a very watery background. Lots of caramel, toffee and chocolate. Dark fruits are very light. Sweetness is fairly strong with notable booze. Light bready and lemon to round. Okay… Hoppiness is thin lemon and light grass in nose, a bit strong in taste. Bitterness is fairly light with liquorices for an abrupt, light astringent sweet caramel finish; Quite dry after taste. Sweet and boozy to mouth.

Comments: This one aroma is more impressive - caramel and chocolate and dark fruits abound, but the body is too thin and taste is monotone and a tad too boozy. Okay to drink but not something special.

Bottle. Pours clear cobber with very small beige head. Aroma is brown candied sugar, malts, nuts, slight alcohol, toast. Taste is medium sweet, malty, toast, candied sugar, caramel, toffee. Light body with toasty and nutty dry finish.

Dobry Doppelbock, imponuje zwlaszcza piana dosc trwala, ladna gesta. Metnosc tego karmelowo alkoholowego piwa jest spora. Swieze w smaku lekko karmelowe toffi oraz mleczna czekolada. Alkohol spory i niestety niezbyt ukryty, ale to jedyna wada do poprawienia.

Backlog rating. Bottle at the Chriso’s May tasting, London. The beer itself does not live up to expectations from the name. It’s mainly sweet, caramely and bland. Unexciting. Would get a higher vote for the name though

0.33l bottle. Deep orangangish brown body, light brown head. Aroma of caramel, toast and floral hops. The taste has a significant peach and orange character with notes of caramel and floral hops. As it warms up, it starts to develop a roasty character. It’s suprisingly fruity for a doppelbock, but I like it.

Bottle shared at Chrisso’s May 2014 tasting 25/05/2014. Bottle from getranke oase in Munchen. Dark orange / caramel coloured pour with a lasting loose off white head. Aroma is nutty, berry, sweet caramel malts, slight stale. Flavour is nutty caramel, caramel, sweet, slightly stale malts, hint of vanilla and choc. Palate is flat and dull - lowish carbonation. So so.
