Im Zuge der Gegenreformation rief der bayer. Kurfürst Maximilian I. Paulanermönche in sein Land.

Bottle. Amber, small and fully diminishing head. Moderate to full, malty and sweetish aroma, caramel and light bread, light dark fruits and alcohol. Body is medium to full, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and light bread with faint dark fruits, light alcohol. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish, some caramel and faint bread, light alcohol. Sweetish doppelbock with caramel. 8,5% makes the finish bit drier. For those with sweet tooth.

- Goldbraun, klar.

Bottle from Finkenkrug, Duisburg
Dark color, amber-brown, with generous but fizzy head, frothy. All the bottles at the bar don’t have info about ABV and best-before date. The caramel aroma seems lightly oxidized. Full bodied, with sweet caramel flavor, some oxidization, light bitterness, hint of cereals.
Pleasant but simple.

Bottle@Home. Sweet raisin and toffee aroma. Brown, tiny disappearing beige head, no lace. Sugar sweet, toffee, malty. Flat, light alcoholic, sticky. Way too sweet. You’d expect more from a experimenting German brewery making a German style beer.

Light brown body, almost headless, looks not very alive. Moderate aroma, specially for a Doppelbock, with light toasty and cookie malts, but not much power. Yeast is also too far in the back for my taste. Low carbonation and a thin body make it is boring, uninspired drink. Little sweetness, which could have been balanced with a spicy or bitter approach, but fails to do so. This brewer’s poorest so far I’ve had them. (50cl bottle from Wasana’s Getränken Oase, shared with Darren on my first brew)

Bottle @ Odense Tasting June 2013. Pours ruby amber with a small white head. Fruity and caramelly nose and flavor. Smooth and dry. Some vinousness. Decent.

Drunk from a snifter at BrauKunstLive! 2013 Festival. The real WOW WOW was their Doppelbock. It was super süffig (drinkable)! Silky chocolate mixed with vanilla, with some pear or another fruit we couldn’t place. At 8.5% if felt strong in flavor but hid the alcohol bite well, a sign of a master brewer at work, IMO. I can see why this beer won the European Gold Star. On their site they call it the "Mastrobator"

Bottle, with many thanks to Quack-Duck. Nice hazelnut colour and very nice, fruity aroma. Like a cocktail of cherries, pears and apples embedded in caramel malt. A bit reminiscent of barley wines. Full bodied with a decisively fruity flavour. Soft and malty beginning with a slightly astringent, nutty and chocolatey, warming finish. Very harmonious, pleasant beer. The best doppelbock I’ve had this far.
