Commercial Description:
Abbey Normal is created using Belgian specialty malts, dark candi sugar in the kettle, and our secret Belgian yeast. It has a deep reddish-brown hue, aromas and flavors of sweet malt, brown bread, raisins and plums. A soft touch of Hersbrucker hops and that enigmatic fruity spiciness that can come only from an authentic Belgian yeast finishes the experience on your palate. Medium-bodied, with a spritzy yet gentle carbonation, traditionally conditioned, and, of course, unfiltered. OG:1.074 FG:1.008 ABV:8.6%

Tap at the ACBF 2009: Brown/copper pour with a thick tan head. Sweet aroma with lots of brown sugar and sweet plum along with metallic notes. Average carbonation- sweet flavor with residual candy sugar notes, sweet raisin and fig, honey, and a metallic note. Just another overly sweet American Abbey Dubbel.

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear dark orange color with an off white head. Smelled of brown sugar and light buttery caramel. Medium bodied and semi-sweet. I tasted distinct brown sugar, plum, clove, and earthy root. There was also a hint of alcohol and a bit of tart banana. Very nice.

Sugary notes in aroma are nice. Flavor is powered with sugar that just sits on your tongue. Nothing special, interesting though

Tap at the brewpub. Aroma of plums, prunes, doughy yeast, and a whole lot of candi sugar. Flavor even more dominated by the sugars. A bit cloying. You get the idea, too much sugar.
