3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Allie (40) - USA - OCT 23, 2007
I had a pint from the tap at CBC. Appearance was excellent, a very dark amber color with a nice foamy head that lasted well. Aroma was interesting, strong and sweet with a trace of licorice. The flavor was rich and smoky with fair hoppiness. This was hoppier than some other ambers I’ve had. Carbonation OK. Palate was a bit watery, but there was some fizziness on the throat going down. A good beer, though I liked their Regatta Golden better.

Had this one on draught at the brewpub in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Hazy dark red pour with a lacy, tan head, sharp citrusy nose with some chocolate notes, dry, piney hoppiness, with a strong finish. A very nice amber.

This beer poured amber with a medium head. Notes of malt sweetness on the nose drive into a sweet and dark chocolate finish. You can see the hops at the tail end of the beer.

A tried my brother’s and thought it was a caramelly version of the pale ale with less noticeable hops.

Dark amber to light brown body with off-white head. Reminiscent of a nut brown with reddish overtones. Aroma is solid, with an abundance of sweet malts. Initial taste is moderately sweet, retreating to a light sweet and acidic with an average duration. Light to medium on the mouth, it has a clean, oily finish with soft carbonation.
This beer shatters our conceptions of an amber ale, boasting a complex palate with a sweet nose.
