Tap. Aroma of big sweet boozy caramel, port, a touch vegetal. Taste is sweet toasted rum soaked figs, dates. Good attenuation. Sweetness balanced nicely by wine soaked fruit character. Pretty good. SSays 14 percent abt on menu and beer board.

On draft at the brew pub. Orange/yellow color with little to no head. Nice barleywine. A little sweet and hot.

2010 vintage. Syrupy sweet up front. Big acidity brings out pineapple and apricot. Honey. Light bodied for a barleywine. Not getting a ton of hops, but the acidity provides balance. Nice but actually a bit simple for such a big beer.

Enjoyed at CBC on their out door patio. Served in one of their small glasses due to its high ABV. Depp amber color with no head and really no carbonation. The aroma is very Chardonnay and white oak mixed malt. It is as if someone took some crusty bread and soaked it in white wine. Even through the taste I get a light grape like acid to it. Through the taste i get the grain more but also a wildflower honey. Mixing with the slight alcohol notes gives the impression of a light lowlands scottish whiskey. This is a very good barley wine and yes I very much could imagine drinking it in the shade of a summer afternoon.

On tap at CBC. Clear honey brown with no head. Nose is caramel, oak and chardonnay. Medium body, not quite flat. Taste is quite vinous, white grapes overwhelming the malty caramel base. A nice sipper but not very complex. While abrupt at first, the pronounced wine-sweetness contrast grew on me.

Draught at the brewpub. This was listed as 14%. Orange-copper color with no head or bubbles. Sweet, oxidized huge honey and caramel aroma with port and grape notes like a sweet Sauternes. Big alcohol. Syrupy and sour flavor with big grapes and honey, burning alcohol and oak. Doesn’t really do it for me.

Hit up the Cambridge table big-time at GABF 2009. This was a very interesting and somewhat impressive -bal aged barleywine. Pours a hazy orange-copper color with a medium off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt, milldly tart white grape, oak, spices, orange and apricot. Flavor is great and complex, both sweet and tart, with bready malt, dry white wine, spices, honey, oak, orange, peach, and even mild roast. Palate medium-light and smooth with soft carbonation. Overall very good.
