3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz. bottle from Julio’s Liquors. This bottle Label reads Batch 1 bottled December 2011 at 9.2 %. Nice garnet color with thin off white head, mild retention. Nose is a nice scotch malt and little peat. The flavor is has dark fruity initially, followed by caramel malts, peat, and brown sugar. No doubt the 11 months of age helped this. Alcohol warming with little ABV taste. Not cloying sweet or boozy. Extremely well made.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle shared by brew3crew (May 2012). Pours caramel brown in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor had sweet caramel malts, some dark fruits, herbal notes, noticeable alcohol that becomes warming, some floral notes and a very subtle nutty character to the finish. Ok, but not something I would seek out.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours murky amber with a creamy tan head. Aroma is really nice, sweet pleasant maltiness, unique scotch brown sugar notes. Sweet and malty notes, a bit nutty but nice overall with a smooth ending.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
10oz tulip from tap at Kinsale, Boston in April 2010. Very handsome. Extremely dark red with a thick beige head. Maybe a little haze but too dark to see clearly. Big fruit aroma. Prunes and other dried fruits prominent. Quite boozy feel on the palate but warming and not too hot. Some herbal bitterness. Strange grapefruit and orange peel edge that probably isn’t too appropriate to the style but works very well. Has an almost Belgian Dubbel feel. Not usually a style I enjoy too much but this one was quite rich, intriguing and satisfying.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This really is a phenomenal scotch ale. The malts are very pronounced and lightly roasty and nutty without being too sweet. Very impressive stuff.

Yum yum I rike scotch ales. Awesome malt bill with that yeast strain that adds that scotch ale complexity I love

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle in a thistle. Pours very deep ruby with a lacy, light tan head. Aroma of caramel, nutty, and some doughy malts, plus a good amount of hops. Flavor about the same, with a good blend of everything. Smooth, thicker texture. A pretty good beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Malt, caramel, nuts, and a little funk in the aroma. Flavor starts sweet, with malt, roast, and a little caramel. Just a little bitterness and drying alcohol in the finish. Really good. I’m drinking this on a warm day, but I think it would really shine as a winter beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark and stone fruit aroma. Muddy brown appearance. Sweet toffee malt flavor, doesn’t come off as a very strong ale. Body is medium to thick without falling to the sticky Scotch trap. The most powerful sessionable beer I can remember.
