COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Winter Ale.
Our Winter seasonal beer is here! Originally brewed in September of 1992 at the request of three bartenders/managers (who have since gone on to great fame and glory) Big Man Ale has been a favorite seasonal brew at Cambridge Brewing Company ever since. Legend has it that the grist weight of Big Man Ale was their combined total weight – 770 pounds of malt! Deep copper-colored and unfiltered (as are all of CBC’s beers), it boasts a full body complemented by strong, robust flavors. Its rich notes of malt and caramel are offset by very aggressive hopping—it is kettle-hopped with Columbus, Cascade and Centennial hops and further dry-hopped with even more Cascades and Amarillo. These hop varieties lend a fruity, citrusy character to this big malty beer, vaguely in the style of a strong stock ale or I.P.A. We just call it the Big Man.

Pours a hazy amber with a small white cap of foam. Aroma is full of hop, grapefruit, and a bit of light alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet with a long lasting bitter citrus duration. Good winter beer!

A solid beer. Pours a nice deep amber with a thin white cap. The aroma is an almost confused mix of malt and hops, neither stands up front or in the back, seems as though they are all trying to b first through the gates, caramel, toffee, citrus, grapefruit, an astringent note, almost medical, it’s weird, but interesting. The flavour is equally strange, muddled sort of experience, toffee mixed with citrus, mixed with milk chocolate, mixed with medical notes. Ends on a candiend orange and chocolate note.

Bottle. Copper pour with a nice white head. Caramel, spice, grapefruit. Miso-like fermentation smell. Nice carbonation with light bitterness, sourness and sweetness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at CBC when we stopped for a late lunch before Night of the Barrels. Pours a clear orange amber with a thin white head. Big bold citrus, spicy and earthy. Earthy malt, sweet caramel and gritty hops. Big bold and sticky. Long earthy grapefruit into the finish.

Draft at the brew pub. 5 oz taster. Hazy amber is color, thin ring of head. Aromas of grapefruit and lots of floral notes. Taste is citrus infused. Peach, grapefruit along with pine and slightly resinous notes. Bitterness lingers for a long duration. Hops are Earthy and green. This is flavorful and balanced well with the right level of malt. Damn tasty!

Tap flight at the brewery. This taster came out with a dark golden, light amber pour with the THICKEST head I have ever seen in a taster glass and quite possibly ANY beer glass. It literally flowed over the edge like the crust on a pot pie our a soufflé, rising about an inch over the glass and even draping over the side like a beret without dripping down. Unbelievable. 5. The lacing is like the spray on bed liner in a pick up truck. Rediculous. Aroma of sweat socks 4. Taste is very hoppy but propped up by a sturdy malt backbone. The familiar coffee roast flavor of CBCs beers is present here, too. Almost reminds me of Mikkeller Coffee IPA. 9. Chewey in the mouth. 4. Delightful. 17.
