COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sweet stouts comprise only a small percentage of the many stouts commercially available. To produce them, grains such as oats and flaked barley are added to provide a soft and full mouthfeel as well as residual sweetness. CaCow! is brewed with those grains as well as lactose, an unfermentable milk sugar (with apologies to our vegan and lactose-intolerant friends!), in the tradition of ‘milk stout.’ This beer was additionally aged with Cacao nibs direct from our friends at Taza Chocolate in Somerville, and house-made vanilla extract to balance the roast with a little extra sweetness. You could, we suppose, consider this the ‘black and white shake’ of stouts! O.G. 1.062 F.G. 1.016

Draft. Darkest brown in color with a well-formed light tan head. The aroma is big milk and dark chocolate, vanilla, roast, and spice. A delicious beer this is, with sweet and very rich chocolate flavors, vanilla, lactose sweetness, and roast. Tastes almost like a milkshake. Medium-bodied for the style and smooth on the mouthfeel. Really tasty beer overall, another good one from Cambridge.

A deep dark stout with a thin dark brown head. In aroma, sweet butterscotch and chocolate with light milky notes. In mouth, an oily chocolatey taste with nut spread, instant coffee, vanilla, not bad, but a bit cloying. On tap at brewpub, July 1 2010.

EBF Session 1. Almost black with a medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roast, vanilla, and cream. Taste was chocolate, some sugary lactose, some roast. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. I seemed to like this more than some others, really did remind me alot of chocolate milk, thought they nailed the description.

Tap at EBF 09. Pours a nice deep dark almost black with a thinning head. Aroma is a nice roasted barley, with chocolate malts, light vanilla and chocolate mixed with almost a slight coconut and cola character. Flavor is a nice sweet lactose smoothness with its chocolate and vanilla hints, a bit of earth with the roastyness, and more cola -like character. Ends up being a bit thin overall and nothing really gets me too enthusiastic about this.l

Draft at EBF. Pours a black body with a creamy white head. Chocolate, vanilla, lactose a bit to sweet. A minor hints of coffee or bitterness and some oats. Good brew.

Tap at 2009 EBF. Poured a good looking deep black with a small whispy head. Aroma was burnt and roasty with hints of chocolate and vanilla. Medium bodied with strong stingy carbonation.Flavor was similar to the aroma and for something called a chocolate milk stout I expected much more chocolate.

Nice black grainy appearance, minimal cream head. Aroma of roast, coffee, wood, and spice. Favors of cinnamon cream, chocolate, very black coffee and char. Textured really well, actually. Almost has grit but is still highly drinkable.
