4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 philvil (162) - Massachusetts, USA - FEB 8, 2012CBC is hit and miss, but this one knocked it out of the park. Delightful balance of sourness and sweet barrel flavors. I couldn’t stop thinking about this beer all weekend after I tried it, and when I went back it was gone. I hope they bring it back someday.

A - Beer is a rich brown-red color with a finger of frothy tannish head. The head fades slowly leaving behind lots of lacing.
S - Aroma is full of rich dark fruit and caramel. There is also some oak and some Bourbon notes mixed in.
T - Rich dark fruit flavor and toasted caramel flavor. Through the middle some oak and vanilla as well as some Bourbon come through. The finish is full of rich dark fruit, oak, and some vanilla and booze that lingers.
M - Full bodied with moderate-low carbonation. The beer feels fairly thick and syrupy. The finish warms the mouth nicely from the alcohol.
D - Very drinkable. Pretty boozy, but the Bourbon flavors mixed in are really nice. The beer is very complex and very rich in a good way.

Sampled from the tap at NotB. Poured a cloudy dark amber gold with a light brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was sweet with candied sugar, sweet grains and some dark fruit as well as a bit of a bourbon backing. Flavor had some molasses, but was mainly sweet grains, caramel and candied sugar with some bourbon in the finish.

Reviewed from notes.
Pours a moderate brown color with a bit of a garnet hue. Thin off-white head with a bit of spotty lacing and a thin collar. The nose is fairly sweet and carries a good amount of dry fruit. The bourbon makes its way in and is quite nice. Not getting much of the sweet gale, but perhaps that’s the fruity character I’m picking up. The flavor blends some sweetness, fruits, and the bourbon quite well with a bit of oak in the background. The combination of bourbon and the base dubbel provides a really nice mouthfeel. Innovative and well done. Props to Cambridge.
