COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
BITTER is a class of English traditional ale, with three general subcategories: Ordinary, Special Bitter, and Extra Special Bitter or ESB for short. Terms like ordinary, special, and extra special don’t mean that one is better than another. Rather, these designations indicate in their broadest sense a difference in original specific gravity and final alcohol content. East Side E.S.B. is brewed with pale and dark caramel malts, with a touch of roasted and chocolate malt from Great Britain. It is kettle hopped with Cascades and Centennial, then dry-hopped with East Kent Goldings to create a complex hop character complimentary to the richness of the malt. Unfiltered and well balanced, the malt and hops blend with a gentle natural carbonation making for a refreshing, quaffable brew. Enjoy!! OG: 1.058 FG: 1.014

on draft at the brewpub. a bit different then the traditional british esb. definately an american version with more noble hops pushing. moderate malt flavors with almost a woody taste. much like all the beers at cambridge pretty much middle of the road and good drinkn.

From cask. Great hop aroma. Caramel body with white head. Taste is just a more bland version of the smell.

On cask: Dry hopped with Cascade This offering pours a cloudy dark maroon with hardly any visable light. It leaves a creamy thick tan head that stays with this brew. The smell is fantastic fresh earthy hops like taking a big breath of a hand full of hops. The taste starts smooth with hop bitterness balanced by a creamy, caramel, mouthfeel that finishes sweet with a herbal presence. This is a another solid offering from the CBC.

Tap at the brewery. Amber color, medium head. Moderately hoppy aroma. Medium body, a hoppy version of the style, (not to the extent of Brutal Bitter though). This is one style that I really just can’t describe very well, beyond that it has a mildly sweet earthy body. But I do know that this is a very enjoyable and well made beer.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2004 2004 cask @ the brewery. Served a moderately brownish-amber, slightly transluscent with a small but persistent off-white head. Aroma of sweet brown bread, brown sugar a touch of toasted earthiness and plenty of spicy hops (perle). Flavor is right away sweet and malty (caramel and rich toffee) with a good dose of spicy and only lightly bitter hops. Very creamy consistency, but enough carbonation to keep things interesting. Ever so light fruit esters on the finish, with more hops and malt mixed together. I thouroughly enjoyed this one.

Light amber in color with a small white head and large loose bubbles.Floral hop aroma. Flavor is hoppy with a sweet caramel malt character.
