Belgian-influenced base beer of pilsner malt and local organic honey. Whole fresh cherries are added to the beer in French oak chardonnay barrels, where another unique blend of organisms goes to work for nearly two years.

From a keg of the 2004 pouring at the Saturday afternoon session of EBF. Pours a hazed amber brown with a thin white head. Sweet old caramel with a touch of cherry. Acetone, with age noticeable right away, a bit nutty. Loads of acid, but a huge amount of oxidization fights it for prominence. Caramel, burning acid, very strong acid. Harsh but tasty. Wouldn’t want to drink a whole 750, but small sample amounts were good.

Pinky orange with a ring of head a light haze. Sour Alka seltzer and fruit aromas. Cherry and raspberry. Oaks give a weighty vanilla too. In you face sour. Such delicate pink fruit with a real citric orange kick. This is so authentic and mouthwatering. Maybe my favourite American beer? Doesn’t say a word about how strong it is, totally quaffable yet so exciting.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2009 On-tap at EBF ’09. Holy wow. The most sour lambic I’ve ever had, I’ve been really impressed with the CBC in what I’ve had from them. I may have to go here more often...

EBF Session 1. Aroma of cherries, alot of acetic acid, alot of earth/basement. Taste is full bodied for a lambic, and very assertive acetic acid, oak, and a good amount of funk. Alcohol very well hidden. I liked it, seemed to me like a neo-lambic.

In short: An intensely acidic and somewhat dry beer with fruity flavours of gooseberries.
How: Tap at Boston Extreme Beer Fest 2009. Multiple samples
The look: Almost clear golden body with almost no head
In long: Nose of “old stuff”. Where a real lambic provides a funky nose, this one proposes a musty nose. Body is pleasantly full with a dry feeling. Taste is intense. For a so-called Kriek there sure wasn’t much of regular cherries in the flavour. The dominant fruit flavour to me was gooseberries (aka ground cherries). Also dry orange peels, orange juice, pineapple juice. Very acidic. Dry sandy finish. No alcohol at all, I am stunned to realized that this is a big beer. An excellent beer but having heard great things about this beer I was hoping for more. I went back many times for re-retry thinking that maybe I missed something but the only thing I really missed at Extreme Beer Fest is an opportunity to prove that I can behave myself when I’m drunk.

Draft at EBF. Pours a honey orange body with a light pink head. Sour cherries and some chardonnay oak, tart with sticky cherries. Hints of lemon and funk, lightly woody with low acidity and a mild etoh warming awesome brew.

Draft EBF. Definately an American interpretation of a lambic. Nice effort. Nice funkiness and cherries flavor. Enjoyable on many levels.

Tap @ CBC – Hazy orange, thin creamy pinkish white head. Intense funked sour cherry skin aromas lay upon soft waves of juicy lemon, wood, balsamic vinegar, and touches of musty cheese. Mouth puckering acidic cherry lemon sourness and farmyard funky cheese flavors flow over musty oak from start to finish. Think La Folie sour here. Light bodied, light carbonation, super sour finish. 9% expertly hidden as well. This was the end of the keg, so I’m grateful to have tried this. Could easily have been from Belgium. Great brew…

Multiple samples at BBF. As you may have noticed, this was a clear winner at Night of the Funk. Had a reddish-pink appearance with slight bubbly head (as much to be expected in the small sampler). Smelled like funk and cherries, along with oak and brett. Just beautiful. But the taste was where it was at. Super sour and full of tart cherry flavor. Prickly on the tongue and lively all the way through. Finishes pretty acidic and dry. Man, this stuff was awesome. Best of the fest in my book.

(Draught) Pours a sparkling clear ruby body with a small off-white head. Aroma of cherry, oak, balsamic vinegar, light barnyard qualities, and some floral notes. Flavor is intensely acidic, plenty of cherry, and some honey with a dry finish. Quite nice!
