An intense black, rich, coffee accented stout. As others have noted, licorice, roast malt and bitter chocolate are also in evidence. Sumptuous, smooth, mouthfeel. Excellent stuff that bodes well for this new brewery. Cask (gravity dispense) at St Albans Beer Festival 2004.

A Mes rate: Cask at The Wenlock.
Black and opaque with a thin rim of tan foam. Superb aroma of chocolate, liquorice, coffee maltiness and some lightly sour and delicately hoppy notes. Flavour follows on in the same vein. Lovely chocolate, more hops than you would usually expect and a lovely slightly sour finish with great length. Lovely mouthfeel. A glorious stout.

Cask@Leicester Beer Festival 2007. Dark beer with a light brown head. The aroma is fishy and the flavour is quite bitter and fishy. Overall a strange fishy beer.

Cask, Leicester Fest 07. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aromas are earthy roast coffee with liqourice and dark chocolate. Flavours are good bitter roast coffee with sweet malts in the background. Bitter dark chocolate and liqourice. Has a good roast finish. Very good.

Cask. Kings Arms as usual. A good stout as stouts go. Black as yer ’at and twice as tasty. All the usual suspects.
