Cask at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge. This is a very dark black beer which poured pretty flat with minimal head. It is quite a silky stout with restrained roastiness. Nice, although maybe a little thin.

Bottle from Beautiful Beers. Pours jet-black with a beautiful thick, creamy head. Even the head is dark brown. Scent of lovely roasted malts, coffee and bitter chocolate. Taste is simply superb. Light sweetness, roasted malts, chocolate. coffee and hints of oak. One of the best stouts I have tried in years. Try find some, you won’t be sorry.

Cask (CWAF2012, Fri)
My first moonshine of the year, and my-oh-my has this brewery finally got everything together after a couple of disappointments last year. Such a full roast, with dark berries, and just a corner of real black burntness. Taste is gloriously mellow for how rich the roast is. There’s no astringency. No sign of any alcohol here, or even attempts to cover alcohol with sugars. Amazingly, I got to this after it was tipped, and to be honest it was a little on the flat side - I’m sure this would have been stunning yesterday. Bonzer, Mark - I look forward to many more like this!

A Mes rate: Cask at The Wenlock. Black and opaque with a thin rim of tan foam. Superb aroma of chocolate, liquorice, coffee maltiness and some lightly sour and delicately hoppy notes. Flavour follows on in the same vein. Lovely chocolate, more hops than you would usually expect and a lovely slightly sour finish with great length. Lovely mouthfeel. A glorious stout.

Cask@Leicester Beer Festival 2007. Dark beer with a light brown head. The aroma is fishy and the flavour is quite bitter and fishy. Overall a strange fishy beer.

Cask. Kings Arms as usual. A good stout as stouts go. Black as yer ’at and twice as tasty. All the usual suspects.

Jet black in colour, and it has a sharp, roasty and camp-fires like smokiness to it but also a lot of roast, liquoricey and surprisingly juicy maltiness. A bit smoky for me, but not a bad beer. (Cask @ Lowes Arms, Denton)
