A Sim rate (bottle from Kris Wines): Roasty, sweet and tangy aroma. I can’t detect any orange, but there’s a bitter chocolate and maple syrup in the nose. There’s also a bit of dried fruit - raisins and maybe cranberry. The appearance is completely dead. Even the hint of head that materialized was gone in seconds. Flavour is serious chocolate. It’s not as rich as a Southern Tier Choklat, but much fuller than a Floris or Meantime Chocolate. There’s a real sourness that hits you as soon as you take the first swig, but it turns into a treacley caramel. Nice. I really like it.

Bottle from Beautiful Beers. Pours black with dark thick head which stays forever. Scent of dark roasted malts and light orange zest. Taste is a bit weird at first where the orange seems to poke through the coffee and chocolate flavours. It is complex in that every sip tastes different. Some is more chocolaty, others are strong orange. Overall this beer is hugely satisfying and interesting to drink.

On cask at the Ely Winter Beer Festival, 2012. Pours a dark brown colour with a lacy light tan head. Aroma of orange, chocolate, caramel and alcohol. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and a dry finish. Mildly bitter. Nice.

(bottle) Nice dark stout with a brown head, "chocolate orange" in the nose but not really any orange in the flavour just chocolate, coffee and malts. Note: have had this on tap before now and remember getting a taste of the orange. Overall a tasty stout.

Super silky smooth stout with no bitterness or dryness. Trace of marmite. Some malty chocolate. Subtle orangey finish. Smooth and sumptuos.

Cask, gravity, at Cambridge Beer Festival ’10. Near black with a small white head. Chocolate aroma with a meaty hint of Bovril. Thick, sweet heavy taste with just a hint of orange, like Black Magic Orange Cream flavour, which used to be my favourite of the selection. Some bitterness to follow. An after dinner sipper, rather than warm summer afternoon festival quaffer.

Pours dark brown/black with almost no head, and little floaties throughout the glass... I guess if I had been paying attention I probably could have prevented that... Nice nose, full of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Initially it is a bit thinner in the mouth than expected, but is smooth on the swallow. Taste is dominantly chocolate, with some coffee and some light smokiness on the swallow. There is some orange in there, but not nearly as present as it should be in my opinion (although I seem to be the only one of that opinion.) Not bad, though they probably should have named it "chocolate with a hint of orange..."

Cask, Tynemouth BF. A rich, thick and chewy beer, great dark appearance and the orange is faint and subtle, which is no bad thing. Alcohol is pretty evident, one to respectfully sip and savour.

From the bottle, this is my favourite so far from this excellent brewery. As with their other beers this is soft in style but that extra power really works with this beer. You basically have a very soft, creamy mouth feel packed with coffee & chocolate flavours but with the balancing of some dry malty flavours as well. I couldn’t pick out any orange but that is no great loss. Top stout.
