COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oak-aged strong lager beer Once again your friendly neighborhood brewers turn tradition on its collective ear, with a brand new beer called Oakquinox. Brewed in mid-winter with an eye towards a Springtime release, this bockbier-style lager was crafted from imported Belgian and German Munich and Pilsner malts. German Tettnanger provide a light, hoppy balance to the rich and smooth malty flavors in this beer, which was cold-fermented with a traditional lager yeast strain. Two months of additional cold maturation (lagering), finishing on a bed of lightly toasted American White Oak and heavily toasted Hungarian Oak provide an interesting twist and additional complexity. Commingling with rich, sweet malt and subtle herbal hops is a broad palate of vanilla, hints of cherrywood, toasted fresh oak, and a faint smokiness in the finish with an eye towards overall balance. Released scant hours before the Vernal Equinox, and on a particularly spectacular warm, sunny day to boot, this beer serves as a robust welcome to Springtime and a kiss goodbye to another crazy Cambridge Winter. Cheers to our friend, the Sun! OG: 1.070 FG: 1.014 ABV: 7.5%%

Very interesting and unique beer. Deep amber-brown color with taupe head dispersed across the top. Crisp and nice oad flavor that is well balanced. Full malt flavor with some sour tone on the finish.

A red copper lager with almost no head. In aroma, oak barrel dust and grape must. In mouth, a dry sweetish candy sugar with pleasant oaken notes, musty and woody. On tap at brewpub, April 4, 2010.
