A mash-up (see what I did there?) of two characters from the Ridley Scott film Gladiator, played by the late Oliver Reed and Russel Crowe, Euprosthenops proximus maximus is also a particularly cool looking spider, suitable as a spooky if oblique Halloween reference and therefore worth a mention. Cucurbita maxima is the Latin name for the most diverse of the five species of cultivated squash. The great Blue Hubbard squash, so called due to its blue-grey skin and ability to grow to forty pounds or more, falls under this family. This beer is a rich, malty strong ale crafted of Munich malt and caramel malts from Valley Malt in Hadley. 300 pounds of hubbards offer just a hint of fresh pumpkin-y flavor near the finish of this beer, and perhaps a fruity note complemented by our house yeast strain. Clean and malt-focused, this is also a beer which should age well, so expect to see a vintage expression next year!

Slightly hazy burnt caramel color with thin lacing. Mild dark fruit aroma with a hint of sourness. Rich body, not too heavy with a nice bite on the finish. Good candy feel.
