COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Lambic / Barrel-fermented Strong Sour Ale with Cherries and Raspberries Two barrels of our famously sour Kriek (cherry) du Cambridge take a jump to the left (and then a step to the right) with a significant addition of raspberries to each barrel, resulting in a new beer that’s no longer a Kriek, not quite a Framboise. We dub thee Rosé de Cambrinus in homage to the first lambic beer ever tasted by our Brewmaster (and still a favorite), Cantillon Brouwerij’s acclaimed Rosé de Gambrinus. Our Rosé presents itself with an artful blend of concentrated fruit flavor and aroma, and plenty of earthy funk in the finish. Both cherry and raspberry stand out, with enough sweetness to balance the significant but smooth acidity leading to a very dry finish. With its bright red hue and wispy foam, it opens up to express complex notes of stone fruits, toast and oak, a hint of almonds, and a wild-floral, tart finish while raspberry notes linger on the palate. A very limited release (less than 100 gallons will be available), Rosé de Cambrinus is sure to resonate with fans of traditional Belgian lambics and other sour beer styles. ABV: 10.0%

Pouring at the Saturday sessions of EBF. Pours a clear ruby orange with a thin white head. Rose, hibiscus, sweet and floral, with a touch of cherry. Nice cherry and spicy notes, lots of acid and vinegar, long acid. Awesome stuff.

Sample at EBF pour has a red amber color. Aroma has tart cherry, big acidity, hefty raspberry, and some funk. Mouth feel is medium with a hefty coating. Flavor brings on big fruit, raspberry, cherry, plenty of acidity, and gets a bit dry. There is a big fruited sweetness countered by an equally big acidity.

In short: Not funky or wild, this is a big and over-the-top extremely sour and slightly tart cherry/raspberry fruit beer. I loved it.
How: Tap at Extreme Beer Fest 2011
The look: Partly cloudy purple body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: Aroma and taste is all about extremely sour cherries and tart raspberries. Sour cherries clearly dominate and the beer is absurdly sour. Supposed to be some kind of hommage to fruit lambics but I didn’t find anything funky, wild or farmhouse about it. This is intense cherry sourness and mild raspberry tartness. Big fat body that totally hides the alcohol. The beer is probably sweet but you don’t feel it with the extreme sourness covering everything. A sipper that is not for everyone. To me this was fantastic. The type of exclusive beer that makes me go to beer festivals. Before I discovered ratebeer I didn’t think that going to beer festivals and commenting on beers could be considered a respectable hobby. I still don’t.

Draft at EBF. Pours a hazy amber blush body with an off white head. Tart and funky raspberries, light cranberries, and cherry pit like funk. Mild wood with a nutty finish and an almost melon like sweetness. Modest acidity, acetic and some lacto for good measure. Nice offering.

Loaded to the brim with sour raspberries, a lot like Framboise de Amorosa with less carbonation. A bit on the acetic side, and too sour to be really drinkable, but a bold and flavorful beer.

Sample at EBF 2011.
Appearance : clear amber no head.
Aroma : Intense sourness, very fruity.
Taste : Same intense sourness with awesome fruits. Finish is very sour and quite fruity.
Overall : Pretty straightforward but well made. Way too sour for me unfortunately. Nice fruits and nice sourness. Just too intense for me taste.

Sampled from the tap at EBF. Poured a hazy amber with a slight purple hue with a gray head that started and remained at the edges. Aroma was full of a really nice tart raspberry note that grew in tartness throughout. Flavor was full of raspberries as well that grew in sourness and not much else. A bit one note but solid.

Pours deep rose-tinged brown into a tulip. No head or lace. Sour cherry, raspberry and cranberry aromas. Sharp, with sour summer fruits formt front to back with a lasting sour finish. Nice.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy dark red with a small pink head. Straight up raspberry and cherries, mixed with sulphorish to wooden notes. Dense fruity raspberry and cherry flavours. Rather citric and yet crisp refreshing fruity. Light sulphorish and wooden note again. Citric, tart and lovely fruity finish. Stunning.
