3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Hoppy Loft. Golden colour, clear, small white head. Aroma is lightly peppery, bit fruity, nice light graininess. Taste is good, pretty subtle black pepper, but it does linger and becomes more prominent as the rest fades. There’s other stuff there but I am struggling to pick it. Definite belgian feel, possibly with the body. Grainy bread. Good stuff. Maybe a bomber was too much but it makes me feel like I have eaten, so could be a good thing.

3.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Light orange and hazy with a thin white head. Faint Belgian yeast aroma. A nice crisp spicules to the beer as the pepper and rye work together. Nice bitterness too from the hops. Not a lot of complexity from the Belgian yeast after the first scent but there is a lot going on with the pepper, with the heat seeming to build with each sip. A really nice beer that makes me wonder why peppercorn aren't a more common adjunct.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle @ home, picked up at Mile High Denver. Pours a bit hazy golden orange appearance with a fluffy khaki head. Heavy peppercorn, sweet orange citrusy, a touch yeasty aroma. Spritzy/champagne, white wine, banana, orange citrusy, heavy black pepper flavor. Not horrible but Jesus, the peppercorn is way too much for my liking.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle (Jun 2013 bottling).
Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting.
Body is dark yellow.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers, herbs), with notes of ginger, coriander, pepper, bubble gum / cotton candy.
Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic, moderately burning.
I’d hoped this would have been more saison than a novelty beer, but it’s definitely the latter. The aroma is over-spicy and while not unpleasant, certainly kind of silly. The flavor balance is ok but a little bland...most of the finishing sensation is the piperine throat burn and while I like that in foods, I don’t in beers. So yeah...overall just a curious novelty beer, not something I’d ever buy again.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
First bottling, Feb, 2012
Pours a hazy gold on amber with a broken sheet of light cream foam. Smells of peppercorn right out the gate, nice sweet malts with biscuit and grain tones. Esters from the belgian yeast add nice accents along the nose. Flavor has some initially sweet, wheaty character, then the peppercorns come through in an almost spicy nuance. The yeast comes through with a bit of a coriander and seeds of paradise tone. Nice dry belgian yeast comes through. Medium on heavy bodied with a lighter carb and wet finish. Nice beer overall, don’t know that I’d buy twice, maybe once the weather warms a bit.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber poured a clear amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of straw, pepper, light fruitiness and light yeast. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, pepper, light yeast and a hint of fruitiness with a crisp dry lingering peppery finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A well done pepper beer, not too much farmhouse character. Grows on me. Very drinkable and refreshing. Thanks Jason.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 22oz. It pours a lightly unclear golden colored body and a dense, off-white head of moderate size. The aroma is very peppery, in a nice way, followed by a generic fruityness and some maltyness. Woody, piney and lightly peachy. The flavor too is very peppery, probably too much, but I like it. Wood, pine cones and peaches, and a little malty sweetness in the back. Full to medium bodied, dry and quite effervescent, finishing with a pepper burn and flavor. Some bitterness too. Ok, so I like black pepper in my light beers, but this might be a tad much. 131122
