4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 SFLpunk (134) - Burlington, USA - JAN 22, 2009
Had a snifter of this 11/12/08 at the CBC. Here’s my notes from the back of my coaster:
"App: Tawny w/ warm orange-brown hue, no lacing.
Nose: Wow! Pumpkin - nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, dulche de leche.
Palate: Spicy texture w/ prickly alc. Medium-sweet - the spices dominate and the hops clean up the finish w/ nice bitterness. Almost no carbonation.
Notes: A solid beer, very spicy though. I wish more b.w. (Barley-wine) showed through. The bitter finish is appreciated. B+"
Looking back on it, it was rather sweet, but the spices tampered that fact. Also, I’m proud of myself for picking out the spices without consulting the description on the menu! Glad my expensive wine education is paying off!
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 mephisto (1253) - TAIWAN - MAY 14, 2010
on tap in cbc in a snifter; it is cloudy orange with little head. the aroma is mildly spicy with hint of pumpkin, same with the flavor. very drinkable for its strength.
2.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 19, 2010
On tap at the 2009 Great Pumpkin Festival, Cambridge Brewing Company, Cambridge MA on 31 October 2009. Cloudy orange colour Spices are evident in the aroma but not overwhelming. Cinnamon to the fore. Warming, but not burning, alcohol on the palate. Lots of rich fruit in the flavour. Not so much hop presence. Full, but smooth mouthfeel. Nice drinking. The year’s aging has mellowed things out nicely.
2.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 ElDuderino (183) - Hyde Park, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 29, 2009
On tap at CBC during the 2009 Barleywine Festival. Body is a bit lighter than the Blunderbuss with a copper murky color and a tall pure white head. The smell is cloves and allspice berries and overwhelming. The taste is more of the same with cloves, allspice and nutmeg dominating the mouth. I really got no pumpkin notes and the sticky sweet malts that are so prevalent in the blunderbuss just linger around as part of the mouthfeel rather than adding to the flavor. This was just a mess and kinda hard to drink.
