ryan (1707), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Apr 22, 2008 Clear, light amber with a small white head. Sugary sweet nose with cotton candy, honey, golden fruits, diacetyl and herbal hops. The flavor is sugary sweet, lightly bitter with cotton candy, lots of herbs and flowers, some pine and honey. Medium body is round with moderate carbonation.
pantanap (849), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 25, 2008 draft at the brewpub..... pours a golden orange brown with a minimal soapy white head around the edges.....aroma of sweet citrus and tropical hops which lend themselves more along the sweetside..... flavors of crisp, carbonated fruity/earthy hops with a mellow malt backbone. pretty balanced overall with the hops coming through in the end. acrdz (4493), Boulder, Colorado, USA Apr 23, 2008 Pours a hazy amber orange color with a normal white head – medium to large bubbles, not ugly but not necessarily attractive. First whiff of the nose is diacetyl, not heavy or overpowering but present without a doubt. There’s also a decent amount of fruit sugars, some honey notes, and the hops mostly come across as sort of a green (fresh) moldy smell. Flavor is citrus fruit and butter, medium bitterness, uncomplex but it doesn’t seem like it’s trying very hard, rather it’s just supposed to be a simple IPA, and I think I would have been all over it, since I love simple, forward IPAs, if it weren’t for the diacetyl. kmweaver (2273), Nicaragua Apr 22, 2008 Growler, courtesy of acdrz. Thanks, Mike! Pours a clear, golden-orange color; bright white head with solid, web-like lacing. Lots of floral and citrus hops in the aroma, surrounded by some butter / butterscotch and sugar; pleasant hoppiness. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy sugar, citrus hops, and some butterscotch; strong levels of carbonation; chewy, resiny and oily hop character, but the butter and stickiness detracts a bit. Lengthy finish, showing sugar, citrus and mineral bitterness; a touch of toasty grains. CharlesDarwin (1442), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 15, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. A very empty kitchen cleaner nose. Faint citrus and grass. Some juicy hop character builds. Pours a nice, glowing pale orange, even and hazed. No head. Flavor is fresh. Heavily grassy. Not too metallic. Not a really juicy or west-coast style. Ah, thanks Ahtanum and Palisade for this unique, biting hop presentation. Forward on the flavor, it just isn’t that enticing. Grassy, again. Body is fresh, clean and holds up well. Nice alcohol, clean yeast character and carbonation. A well-constructed IPA, I just don’t think at this level these hop varieties are the right ones for the job. Alcohol really lifts the hops. They’re fresh tasting, just not my favorite. Oh well, a good experience with these varieties.
