Hand-bottled. A light amber beer with a thin white head. The aroma is very spicy with notes of nutmeg, heather, and lavender, as well as a slight acidity. The flavor is slighlty acidic with strong notes of spices; heather, lavender, and milfoil (rølikke), leading to a very dry finish.

3.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft... GABF ’06... Clear golden ale with a small, tight head. Very herbal, earthy, unusual aroma of black tea, lavender, heather and cinnamon; but not overdone? Herbal flavor with good balance; caramel, black tea and all kinds of herbs and flora. Medium-bodied and watery with almost no carbonation. Finishes herbal and bone-dry. Odd bird, this one. Somehow, it sort of works.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hazy strawy amber colored, smallish off-white head. Convincing heather nose offers a plate of complementing flavours, floral, herbal and citrusy yet moreso from spices than from hops. In mouth, the fruitiness is lively, evoking litchi and apricots while the peppery spice blend rounds it out nicely. Juicy, balanced and refreshing gruit, that might gain from having a slightly fuller bodied.

GABF 2006. When I first smelled this I though of the Fraoch Heather Ale. Some heather, lavender and herbal notes. Taste is more heather, light flowery flavors, and some sweet maltiness. Body is medium with light carbonation. Ends with more heather and lavender. Fresh cut flowers and sweet malts. Congrats to Cambridge for this medal winner!

Reviewed from notes. Pours a nice moderate reddish-copper color with a good white head and a bit of spotty lacing as it goes down. The nose is quite floral with some heather and other turkey-rubbing herbs. Not necessarily my cup of tea, though not bad either. The flavor never really brings everything together all that well and it ends up more toward a carbonated alcoholic tea, at least in my book. There is a bit of cinnamon spice along with some other herbs. Mouthfeel is medium with a bit of sugar and moderate carbonation. It got better as I become used to its unusual nature, but I never got to the level of thinking, "hey, this is good."
