3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 whaleman (2176) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 13, 2006
Clear golden-yellow body with some noticeable jets of carbonation and a clean, silky white head. Butterscotch diacetyl notes dominate the aroma. Also has qualities of light lemongrass, herbs, yeasty bread dough, and honey. Flavor is more integrated and finishes moderately bitter and dry. Distinct and complex, no doubt, but the diacetyl presence was undesirable. Off-kiltered, but in the end, I noticed that I readily inhaled this beer anyway.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 GriffinAvenue (396) - Winchester, Massachusetts, USA - SEP 4, 2006
Draft. Bright, golden coloring. Lemon-Pledge initial aroma. 3-part taste that forces an exhale through the nose like champagne. Lemongrass flavoring makes me feel like I’m in a barnyard. Not a scent or taste I’m going for in a beer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 SuIIy (1877) - Natick, Massachusetts, USA - AUG 5, 2006
Draught at CBC 8/4/06. Pours a crisp dark yellow color with a small white head that receedes to noting. Nose is lemony and grassy with some of the lime showing up. Palate is thin and crisp, slightly dry. Flavor is lemony and grassy with some light dry champagne notes and a very subtle lime note that is refreshing and crisp.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 ClarkVV (3578) - Allston, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 2, 2006
Draught flute at CBC, May 2006. Fizzy white head rapidly fades to a ring, atop a bronze-brass body with strong lemon-straw highlights. The nose is dusty and slightly farm-like, with some sharp chardonnay notes that cut all sweetness. Lime slowly comes forth and builds up power in the nose, while the lemongrass joins the mix to create a soft, fruity and lightly acidic nose. Fruity and full of limes and lemons in the flavor, the carbonation is moderate, leading to a lightly bubbly, effervescent fruit-wine like beverage. Some dry barley grain notes on the very end serve to remind of its beer base, but it is almost more like a light, extra-dry braggot. Some light honey sweetness emerges upon warming, but as does a fair amount of acidity on the end. No alcohol noted. Another interesting experiment from Will and I’d love to try more.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 rederic (2326) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 10, 2006
Sampled at the brewpub, yellow color, with a white head, the nose is one of grapes fruitiness, yeasty accent, touch of herbal hoppiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a winey and tart character, note of spiciness, herbal and leafy accents, leading towards a lemony hop bitterness finish.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DrGonzo (625) - Somerville, Massachusetts, USA - APR 30, 2006
At the brewery on tap. Pale golden color with thin white head. Grainy and slightly herbal aroma. Primarily a light-bodied, almost Belgian, golden ale. The added lime and lemongrass come through more after several sips. Quick and mostly dry finish, clean with a spritzer feel. Worth drinking because, like other CBC brews, it’s well made, but it’s not their most interesting offering.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BennyTicklez (621) - USA - SEP 3, 2005
Pours hazy golden with a nice white head. Light body. Taste is citursy, lemony, somewhat gingery as well. Very fruity aroma and sweet on the aftertaste. An interesting beer, at least worth one shot.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 duff (5483) - St, Margarets, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 27, 2005
UPDATED: SEP 2, 2005 Tap@Cambridge Brewing, Ma. Full on lemsip cough medicine, which i guess is the lemongrass. Some piney hops, quite herbal, but not really my cup of tea. Interesting though.
