22oz bomber from Whole Foods: This one pours a cloudy golden color. There was really no head on it, nor any lacing. The nose is nice. Some spices upfront, yeasty, bready and a hint of orange. The taste is good, despite the body being a hair thin. Wheat, yeast, spices, orange, bready. A fairly decent Tripel.

Bottle from Whole Foods, Sacramento. Pours light amber with a transient white head and a floral fruity aroma. There is a medium-bodied pale malt flavor with lots of Belgian yeast ester and a harsh bitter finish that sticks around. Not a very good example of a tripel.

22 oz bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pours a clear deep amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, yeast, fruity character, with some mild peppery spice. Mild citrus notes and I’m surprised that this was 10%. Unfortunately, it was just missing the character that I was hoping to see.

Pour is a clear yellow with a very small white head. Very flat looking for a tripel. Aroma is a decent yeasty ester with lots of the clove and banana thing going on. Flavor is a big juicy fruit with some follow up honey and sugar. I liked the fruit blast you got at first but the heavy sugar kinda made this a bit cloying at the end. They were going in the right direction to make a good Belgian tripel but just went a bit to sweet with it.

Bottle (brewed by Ipswich).
Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark yellow.
Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, malt syrup, grain), with notes of pear syrup, alcohol, applesauce.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Full body, syrupy texture, lively/fizzy carbonation, heavily alcoholic.
Ugh, seriously? This is just plain bad, and I don’t know if it’s Ipswich that’s to blame or Cambridge’s recipe. I haven’t had a single good beer made at the Ipswich factory yet (between this and Kissmeyer and Clown Shoes and all the other places that inexplicably employ them), and some of the Cambridge samples I’ve had in the past (at GABF and other festivals) were usually better than this. In any event, this is a syrupy, sugary mess with absolutely nothing enticing about it. Very burning alcohol combined with the goopy, overly sweet flavor experience makes it virtually undrinkable. An absolute drain pour, and by no means a true tripel.

Good. Much more flavorful than the Belgians make, I feel, with just as solid Belgian yeast flavor. Less carbonated than those from across the pond.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Mile High Denver. Pours a hazy golden orange appearance with a white head. Somewhat spicy yeasty (but definitely held well within check), light banana, citrusy, wheat aroma. Flavor is quite smooth and true to the style with notes of tangerines, lemon, banana, coriander, and black pepper. Nothing too fantastic but a decent offering for the style.

Bomber - cloudy dark gold - thick, frothy lace - nose of confectioners sugar, strong banana esters, pear, over ripe apples, juicy fruit gum - there are, however, some pleasant peppery phenols and a rustic, earthy/basement character, so not all bad so far - flavor is quite sweet, with strong banana up front - becomes very spicy through the middle, and a moderate bitterness and tartness develop to try to balance the sweetness - finish of rather messy phenols, strong spiciness, a lot of alcohol heat, a touch of white grape - messy, but not entirely unenjoyable.

22oz bottle, from Dutch’s. Shared with local raters. Mostly clear orange color. Minimal off-white head. No lace sticks. Smooth, lightly soft lighter carbonation. Lightly sticky finish. Nice belgian yeast character, banana, spice. Taste is mostly sweet, has a bit of light alcohol warmth to it. Alright belgian tripel, not my favorite American example. Not the most complex nor well-integrated.

Bottle shared by Dr Silverworm. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy white head that lasted with good lacing. Complex sweet citrus and yeast aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy citrus sweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is a refreshing beer.
