COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Arriving in time to greet the new year is our deceptively efficacious Belgian strong ale. Golden-straw color, effervescent condition, and commingling flavors and aromas of curacao orange, coriander, yeasty fruit esters and phenols, a subtle malt base, and a warming, slightly hoppy finish. Served proudly in its own tulip-shaped glass, this perennial was the first Belgian-style beer produced in American craft-brewing history according to the beer Hunter, Michael Jackson. Don’t miss it!

An orange-amber body with a white head that faded quickly. There was some sediment on the bottom, but not enough to give it a nice cloudy presence at the end of the bottle. Aroma was of bubblegum, banana, yeast and fruity esters. Flavor seemed to have a sweet note to it initially. Mostly from fruit flavors. There was a nice presence from the yeast which added a nice tart flavor. Alcohol was mildly warming in the finish. Kind of smooth and easy to drink. The carbonation seemed restrained.

Hazy gold pour with a 1 finger, creamy white head that has decent retention. Aroma of citrus doughy yeast, fruity esters, banana, peppery phenols, light floral and spicy hops, more grassy. Flavor is full of doughy yeast, lots of spicy, some hot and peppery phenols, tree fruit esters, grassy hops and some spicy hop flavors and booziness to the finish. Medium body with a syrupy entry, leading to a slightly dry, slightly chalky and boozy burn to the finish. Decent, but phenols are a bit over the top which probably makes the booziness seem as fiery as it is.

Bomber from Whole Foods in Davis, CA. Pours hazy golden amber with a slight foamy white head. Aroma of light seeded fruit with some light stone fruit esters. A little candi. Lots of things here, but it suggests a tripel aroma. Med + body. It all coalesces into candi, mild touch of treacle, fruity esters. Malt too. But malt is not the hilite. Just when I think it’s going to finish sweet, the sugar drains away, and it suggests dry. There’s some phenolic aspects, but they are pretty covered by the candi and esters. Very enjoyable.

22 oz bottle. Pours gold with a short lived white head. Aroma has some fruity esters, apple, pear and white grape, Belgian yeast and white pepper (light). Taste is sweet with a touch of spice. Palate is medium bodied with some alcohol warmth. Nice.

Pouring at The Festival in Portland with Kramer, Andrew, and J-Dadmond. Pours a clear gold with a large white head. Banana and musk on the nose, yeast and toast. Sweet with a hint of nuttiness. Soft wheat, toast, warm alcohol. Chewy wheat, malt. Warm and big, but still fairly easy drinking. Soft musk and sweetness.

Ok, my pallet is a bit messed up since starting with the hoppy beers so can't vouch 100% accuracy here. This is a big sweet estery Belgian with a nice peppery bite at the end. This is a 10% ABV so be careful with this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear gold with nearly no head that dissipates fast. Smell is sweet molasses and nutty. Palate is medium bodied with good carbonation. Taste is not so great, watery and roasted at first, then a sweet kick and a less sweet aftertaste. Weird, and not to style at all.

Thus far I have been impressed with Cambridge beers. This one, from Frank Smith’s, Pours dark straw with clingy off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, old aley yeasty esters, hopcitrus, some spice. Tastes dry, floral, with notes of hopcitrus, some funky esters, and finishing dry florals and white peppery spice.
