Arriving in time to greet the new year is our deceptively efficacious Belgian strong ale. Golden-straw color, effervescent condition, and commingling flavors and aromas of curacao orange, coriander, yeasty fruit esters and phenols, a subtle malt base, and a warming, slightly hoppy finish. Served proudly in its own tulip-shaped glass, this perennial was the first Belgian-style beer produced in American craft-brewing history according to the beer Hunter, Michael Jackson. Donít miss it!

An orange-amber body with a white head that faded quickly. There was some sediment on the bottom, but not enough to give it a nice cloudy presence at the end of the bottle. Aroma was of bubblegum, banana, yeast and fruity esters. Flavor seemed to have a sweet note to it initially. Mostly from fruit flavors. There was a nice presence from the yeast which added a nice tart flavor. Alcohol was mildly warming in the finish. Kind of smooth and easy to drink. The carbonation seemed restrained.

This beer seems to be one that is very palate specific. I love this, but my wife is not quite as keen. Pour: This beer pours a hazy golden with a really thin white head. The carbonation both here and on the palate is perhaps a bit less than I would like, but itís not a big sticking point for me. Nose: At the first introduction to the nose this reminded me of a yellow or orange colored fruit, such as peach with pineapple and a hint of cherimoya (which may be the banana esters coming through). It is a warm aroma, with a moderate amount of booziness as would be expected with a Tripel. The smell is predominately sweet; I would have preferred a bit more aroma hop, perhaps something like Kent Golding would do the trick. Tongue: The aroma of fruit carries through to the palate, but introduces quite a bit more complexity with flavors of traditionally risen bread on a background of delicately flavored noble hops which trail indistinguishably into long notes desserty alcohol and the light burn expected with a tripel. There is an undertone of acidity however which I find a bit odd. Mouth feel: This ale fills the mouth with a luxurious gelato quilt of silky and savory textures that enhance the favor profile which is only mildly complex, enriching the experience to a delightful play between taste and texture. Overall: Iím biased because this brew is reminiscent of another discontinued ale that I find exquisitely tailored to my palate, however I would contend that this is still a finely crafted tripel that will satisfy the palate of beer lovers, belgian beer lovers, and beer avoiders alike. I may use this as an introduction to beer for my friends who "donít like beer," as there is a beer for everyone IMO. There is definitely room for improvement, but I will certainly buy it again.

Bottle, 22oz. A hazy, orange-golden beer topped by a small, dense, light beige to off-white head. The aroma is lightly spiced, with alcohol, white sugar and a generic fruityness and some pine cones. Itís full-bodied, effervescent and still soft, sweet in the flavor but still dry, and with a nice bitterness, a tad too much alcohol burn and a mostly fruity flavor. Some pine cones and spiced hints. Lasting fruity, sugary, spiced and bitter finish. A bit too warm this one, but nice anyway. 150610

Bomber. Belgian yeasty aroma with notes of coriander, clove and citrus. Pours cloudy golden colored with a thin off white head and no lacing, but has pretty good retention. Starts with Belgian yeast flavor and a bit of banana. Finishes slightly dry with the above spices coming through at the very end with sweet banana flavor sticking to the palate. Decent tripel.

Poured from the 750ml bottle into a Harpoon tulip glass The color is a bright yellow/gold with two fingers of foamy white head and some nice lacing left on the glass. The smell is sweet and has a great floral aroma that pops with a nice fruity nose. There is hints of apple peel, orange, and pear in the aroma with a touch of a Belgian character. The taste is a bit yeasty with a grainy flavor that pops with some sweet malty flavor. The juicy fruit flavor here is delicious as some apricot, and apple flavor mixes with a tease of white grape. A nice tangy bitterness comes in and melds with the sweetness and is like a double edged sword as the flavor splashes into a poke of bitterness at the end. The feel of this beer is medium bodied with a great drinkable feel that is a little dry but quite pleasing. It goes down easy and has some nice fruity esters that lingers only slightly after each sip.
