2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 BillKismet (2757) - Seattle, USA - OCT 15, 2011
Black-bodied with an airy head. Vanilla and chocolate mingle in the air with cinnamon sprinkles. Unfortunately, the rough, tannin-heavy flavor (perhaps from over-steeped spices) detracts mightily. Some vanilla and diffuse spicing, but overall, rather harsh. Tannic clovy finish. Aging might help, but probably not.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Lubiere (6988) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 20, 2011
A clear dark brown porter with a thick collapsing lacing brown head. In aroma, a smooth sweet vanilla molasse with vinous notes, ginger, complex yet enticing. In mouth, a smooth sweet chocolate with ginger, cloves, light coffee and black pepper burn. On tap at brewpub, Oct. 10 2011.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Indra (2361) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - OCT 16, 2011
On draft at the brewpub. Sweet, roasty, spiced aroma, with notes of toffee, nutmeg, allspice, very faint bourbon barrel, dark sweetness and a touch of brown sugar. Black in color with brown highlights, not much head to speak of. Flavor follows the aroma very closely, with sweet, roasty, dark maltiness, pumpkin pie spices, very faint bourbon touches and lighter touches of pumpkin and faint pepper appearing at the finish. Low in effervescence as expected with barrel aging, mostly dry impression ultimately, body is medium. Quite a different conglomeration here, but pretty tasty.

Cask @ Elysian’s Great Pumpkin Fest... Poured near black with a thin head. Quite a bit of spice here. Especially from the nutmeg. Thin body with some ash, and a toasted malt sweetness. Again, the nutmeg was very evident with the ginger not far behind.

GPBF 2011 – Elysian Brewing – Seattle, WA
Dark Black in color, thin head. Nice roasty aroma with slight spice coming off the aroma. The flavor was a thick as hell porter with spice and slight pumpkin flavors coming through. The spices of cinnamon where the strongest and made this a very tasty brew.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 after4ever (4500) - Brier, Washington, USA - OCT 8, 2011
Cask at GPBF. Pours nearly jet black with a few fish eye bubbles of dark tan floating around. Big dark spicy nose, lots of allspice. Creamy medium body, surprisingly burly for a cask ale. Roasty, sweet, chocolatey, very complete beer with a nicely integrated spice profile.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 lushawn (2241) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 2, 2011
Tap at cbc. Potent aroma of black licorice, vanilla, touch of bandaid, with a oaky bourbon presence. Taste is roast, medicine, booze, herbal earthy pumpkin sugar and spice, and oats. Something seems off, some kind of medicinal infection. Or maybe the anise barrel pumpkin combo produces some peculiar flavors that just aren’t doing it for me. Lotta roast too. Potent flavors. Not nearly as good as the biers de gourd I had before this. Liked this more as I drank it, actually. But still a bit underwealming as my hopes were high.
