COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg; Special.
James and Pete paired up for Gentleman’s Wit (4.3% ABV). The inspiration, other than loving the zesty spiciness of wit, lies somewhere between a plate of lemon meringue pie and a cup of Earl Grey tea. James roasted 20 lemons covered in bergamot for 20 hours until they were juicy, fragrant, caramelised and sharp. The beer was made with a classic recipe and yeast strain with the lemons bombing into the whirlpool at the end of the brew.
It’s turned out as one of the most incredible beers we’ve brewed. The colour is as beautiful as a beer can get: a hazy, unfiltered warm pastel yellow. The lemon and bergamot poke through the aroma, a hint of sharpness cuts through the middle, it’s dry and interesting and quenching and a dry, phenolic spice ends the mouthful like a full stop ends a sentence.

Keg at Spitfire. Pours clear pale yellow. Nose is mostly lemon and citrus, also light coriander, pepper, spices. Taste lemon, pepper, spices. Crispy carbonation.

Bottle at the Purple Turtle, Reading. It’s a very pale yellow with virtually no head. It’s a bit thin, fizzy and watery up front. The main flavour is lemonade with some floral hints. There’s a little grass and ginger too. Light banana comes through in the aftertaste which leaves a slight creaminess in the mouth, losing the crispness and refreshment that I was seeking on this surprisingly hot spring evening. I’m not normally a fan of Belgian-style wheat beers, but despite a few faults (largely in the mouthfeel), this is a tasty enough beer that I quite enjoyed.

Pours a pale cloudy colour. Taste is citrusy with some nice yeast on the palate. One of the best wits I’ve had

Bottle from cellarbrations super store in hami hill. Pours yellow with a thin white head with light body and active carbonation. Aroma is cloves and wheat with a pinch of spice. Taste begins with a sharp spiciness on the tongue which radiates into cloves and citrusy notes particularly lemon. Finally the ending is mildly bitter and mildly sour. Pretty mild for a wit beer but still enjoyed.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Opaque, lemon squash colour. Tight, bright, white head. Bit of lemon. A bit yeasty. Some cereal. Some clove, and what have you. Taste is dry, and squeeze of lemon tart. Thin, oddly greasy palate. A bit watery. Finish is short dry. Smells good. Looks great...

Medium white head. Hazy pale yellow body. Fruity mealy coriander aroma, clean and straightforward. Dry coriander and fruit taste with floral mealy mint notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, mealy, slightly flat mouthfeel. Dryish herbal coriander aftertaste with mealy wheaty notes. It’s not bad at all, but a bit anonymous. (0.33l bottle, from Waitrose Canary Wharf, London.)

Almost see-through with little foam. Fruity and spicy on the nose. Taste has yeast coming through but fairly light on taste and palate. Lacklustre finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy blond colour. Aroma is citrusy and a bit soapy. Fresh and zesty taste. The lemon is definitely noticeable. Quite sweet at first with a little bitterness in the finish.
