Cameron’s Doppelbock features imported German malt, a rich dark amber colour, and an aroma full of sweet toffee and caramel encompassing hints of coffee and freshly baked bread. The finish is deliciously complex with a full mouth feel, followed by lasting sweetness.

This one poured a very dark amber colour with a big, beautiful, tan coloured head. To the nose there are scents of red wine, ripe fruit, faint malt vineger and roasted malts. First sip was medium sweet and full flavoured with flavours of toffee and rich caramel with a little smoke and roasted malt. Finish is roasty and sweet with the burnt caramel flavours lingering.

Bottle from kbudd19, thanks Kevin. Pours nearly opaque brown with a large, creamy beige head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is moderate bready and nutty malt, caramel notes, prunes, figs and brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, moderate bready, nutty and caramel malt, light earthy hops and bitterness with light alcohol and a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Pours clear brown with amber-brown highlights, one finger of dense light tan head diminishing gradually to a thick cap, moderate lacing. (4/5) Nose is dark roasty malt, cocoa and chocolate, mildly boozy fruit, bourbon tones. (8/10) Taste is moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (8/10) Medium bodied, low carbonation, slightly sticky lingering bitter finish. (4/5) A solid dopple. The bourbon booziness is a little aggressive, but not unpleasant. I’d like a heavier body and thicker texture, though. (16/20)

Bottle: pours a deep brown lager in the glass, ruby highlights, rich mocha cap. Aroma is a tad understated but indicative of a quality dunkler bock – bready, lightly sweet, coco, roasty, earthy from non filtering. Taste has a flood of Munich chocolate malts in front, either Hallertau or spalters balance it well. A little complexity begins just before the long drying roasty finish. A fairly good attempt at a bock, but more complexity and the fig-dark dried fruit tastes are missing = perhaps the primary fermenting was too cool. Anyway these are small issues and overall this is a quite drinkable doppelbock........................Update : this is the third year I have sampled and cellared this doppelbock and this latest release is as good as any German Micro offering so I adjusted my rating to a 4/5

HopsandBolts (258) - Ontario, CANADA - JAN 9, 2015
650 ml bottle from the LBCO.

Appearance: Pours a deep brownish black with a finger or so of tan head with moderate retention and just a bit a lacing.

Aroma: Big aromas of milk chocolate, malted milk, toasted malt.

Flavours: Chocolate, dark malt, molasses, hint of bourbon.

Mouthfeel: Rich and creamy.

Overall: Love this one. The aromas and flavours are very pronounced and sweetness just comes right through.

Gorbalev (3000) - Ontario, CANADA - NOV 21, 2014
Bottle, Embrun LCBO. Very dark brown, wisp of a head. Sweet, molasses, caramel aroma, some dark fruit as well. Taste is good - rich, chewy malt, more caramel sweetness and a very long sweet linger. Hints of roast and dark fruit. Body is a just a tad thin and watery at times and it is all pretty straight forward - not a bad thing at all. A solid example of the style and one I would have again.

czar (7892) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 6, 2014
pours murky light brown leaving a small light beige rind, no lacing per say. JD’s bananas, bubblegum, overly woodsy vanilla, sweet caramel, sweet prune bread, some other sweet red fruits underneath - miscellaneous, brown sugar and molasses, tannins, grassy, tea leaves. light carbonation, light to medium body - oily and a bit sticky, semi-sweet grassy-woody-tannic finish. obviously too bourbony. still drinkable next to a bonfire.

Pours deep reddish brown, medium head that has very little retention. Smells of raisin, prune, maybe a dark honey coffee, kinda like root beer overall. Starts with hazelnut cruelly before kicking into molasses and finishing with a rich coffee with moderate alcohol warmth.
