3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma is fig, chocolate, espresso, roasted malts and slight rye notes. Taste is similar with sweet deep roasted malts with chocolate and toffee chewiness to it. Rich sweetness until the end and matched with a well balanced bitterness that isnít too deep in character. The high alcohol % isnt really detectable. Appearance is a black body with a light brown head that retains fairly well.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
pours very dark brown with a nice light beige head offering good retention and lacing. chocolate, roasted and not quite burnt caramel, chocolatey tobacco, coffee and cream, woody with its tannins, some sparse red fruitiness - mostly cherries, but also red grapes - surprising red wine character rather than rum; although coconut and vanilla make their way through in a nice blending fashion. light carbonation, medium body - oily and sticky - and probably a tad heavy for its labelled porter status, grassy and tannic finish. much enjoyed!

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber. Pours a jet black color with a medium brown head. A semi-sweet nose of bakerís chocolates, vanilla, anise, some cocoa. The flavor is tropical rum (mellow), cocoa, licorice, dark fruits, the sugary rum is light but provides a really nice tropical sweetness. Quite a nice brew. The palate is slick and very drinkable. Quite a fireside drink, but August in the upper left edge will do.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Visual: Pours jet black with just a shade of brown at the base of the glass, a good-sized very foamy lasting head, very sticky clumps of lacing, a good layer of retention, lots of fast and slow streams all the way from the base of the glass. Beautiful visually.
Nose: chocolate, thick sweet malts, molasses/brown sugar, a hint of woody roast. (lvl-6)-pungency
Attack: immediate thick malts, creamy-fizzy, oily-medium thick-silky mouthfeel
Mid-palate: (MAIN) rum caramel sweetness (lvl-7) + alcohol detection, deep dark chocolate, roasted coffee, burnt wood, caramel, brown sugar
Finish: biting bitter hops mixed with lingering roasted malt exhale
Summary: Superb depth, body, mouthfeel, and balance. A bit heavy on the palate but expected from the 9.2%. One of the better Imp stout/porters Iíve had recently.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Cameronís Oak Ages Series Obsidian Imperial Porter Rum Barrel
Aroma: 9/10. Treacle, toffee, rum and raisin, pleasantly yeasty.
Appearance: 5/5. Pours black with a brown head that lingers.
Taste: 9/10. Thick coffee and rum, caramel, and more chocolate. Imperial Porter exellence! Finishes with chocolate and blackberry and rum and coffee. Many layers! Only lost point is for slightly too bitter for my tastes.
Palate: 4/5, great creamy mouthfeel and nice smooth finish. Lonnnng finish, chocolate icing and coffee and blackberry.
Overall: 18/20. WOW. Where did this come from?! The best porter experience Iíve ever had. Nice lighter option versus imp stouts!

808s n FartRates review #24, courtesy of course of a kindly northerner whoís name unfortunately escapes me.
Pours basically black with a nice olí head.
The aroma is roasty but also sweet. Itís got some chocolate cake stuff happening with some light and well integrated booze.
The flavor is decidedly heavy on apple forward rum. Itís ashy with some dark chocolate, and has a higher level of malty bitterness than I would prefer. Thatís not to say that it doesnít have an enjoyable enough flavor, but too boozy and bitter for me to find much balance in.
Really though, whoever offered me this... thanks for breaking up all the Malt Liquor ratings with something like this... really thank you!
