Dark and opaque with a caramel head. Aroma of dark bittersweet chocolate. Flavour is bitter, molasses and a hint of fruit. It somehow works. It's easy drinking and not too heavy. We drank it chilled to 2-3° C which is quite a bit cooler than recommended... Still good!

Appearance: with one finger of dense dark beige head, excellent retention and lacing. (5/5) Aroma: cocoa and dark chocolate, rum, liquorice, woody, dark fruit, roasty notes. (8/10) Taste: moderate-low sweet, moderate bitter, moderate alcohol. (8/10) Palate: full slick body, soft carbonation, off-dry boozy mildly bitter finish. (4/5) Quite a nice example of the style - lots of dark malt and fruit notes, but without the associated sweetness. The full body carries off the bigger ABV quite well, and the finish is decently dry, albeit somewhat boozy. On the subject of the booziness, the rum finish is quite even-handed, and the rum flavours do not dominate. This is the way I like this style done, but I think it would be even better after a year or two in the cellar. (17/20)

Illatai is teltek, sötétek, mégis játékosan könnyedek; a pirított, földes vonalakat néhol beteríti egy színes, alkoholos köpeny. Tartalma már kevésbé sokrétű - morcos hangulatú, pörkölt, szinte már hamus, fekete kortyok gördülnek lefelé komótosan, a nehéz, étcsokoládés és robusztus kávés hangulatokat hosszas, karcosan kesernyés utóíz követi. Némi alkoholos szövet itt is ráfeszül a szerkezetre, egy villlanásnyi rumos kicsengés kivehetővé válik, a főszerep azonban a komoly, súlyos, férfias mondanivalóé. Az égetten kesernyés hangulatok szeretői ebben a sörben találják majd meg számításaikat.

Pours almost black with a beige head. After the head dies down a bit can smell cocoa, wood, and hints of rum. A lot of cocoa and malt upfront. Hints of rum. The back end leaves a very woody/ash mouth feel. Can feel the booziness in this one. It has all of the things that make me think I should be enjoying it more than I am. Overall, I am a bit disappointed.

65 cl bottle @ Timo A.
Pours dark brown, almost black color with a small off-white head. Loads of cocoa and dark chocolate on the aroma, subtle orange notes, espresso and subtle roasted malts. Lots of cocoa and chocolate on the flavor too, dry, malty, mild rum notes come through as a wooden notes, some faint vanilla notes with hoppy bitterness, very faint licorice, mild coffee notes with an ashy finish, subtle spices there too. Velvety dry palate. Refined, no sweetness to blame here at all, excellent.

650 ml bottle shared by MisoW at Bratislava Tasting, thanks!
Almost black body, with a quite small, creamy, coffee colored head.
Aroma of melting dark chocolate, cocoa, coconut, coffee, some rum barrel notes, dark fruits.
Tastes of rum barrel, coconut, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee, some liquorice.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes roasty, dry, with coffee, cocoa, barrel notes, some liquorice.

Tasty. Quite straight, but pleasantly dry and roasty, with the rum barrel notes not too dominant. Not my favourite style example, but really enjoyable.

Has a ruby dark brown colour with almost no head. Smells alcoholic, raisins, dried mullberry, oak, woody and earthy notes, licourice, little bit sweet notes like caramel. Oak flavour is not absent in taste. Leaves strong bitter coffee taste in the mouth. Might be nice with some dessert, too dry on its own.

0,75l bottle shared by MisoW, big thanks. black color, small coffee colored head. Smells coffee, licorice, wood, some roast, rum, dried fruits, raisins, vanilla. Decent smell. Full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. Tastes licorice, charcoal, vanilla, medical, some alcohol. Finishes with licorice and rather medical. Not such a big fan, vanilla and licorice notes ake this one not a favorite of mine..
