Normally I don’t love hoppy beers, but Campbells overcomes this with a deep malt base and an excellent flavor balance. A pity you can’t find this either in the US or the UK--this is a true classic and one worthy of a broader stage.

0.25l bottle at home. Beautiful deep copper color with low beige head. Caramel nose, bitter-sweet taste, pleasant hoppy aftertaste. I bit underrated beer, for me it is quite nice ale.

Dark mahogany brown. Malt aroma, slightly metallic. Very rich, creamy malty flavour. Caramel sweetness. Alcohol balances the sweetness well.

Alkoholischer, würzig-malziger Antrunk. Weiter sehr würzig, immer leicht alkoholisch, auf die Dauer stört dies aber immer weniger. Die starke Würze gefällt, ebenso wie der bittere Einfluss im Nachgeschmack. Süffig und lecker! Test vom 7.8.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,12,12,13,3,13 - 12,10

Redish brown colour and no head. There is a bit of alcohol in aroma together with a fudge note. Rich warming alcoholic taste and burnt sugar. Some chocolate notes presents itself when warmed up. A well kept beer. BB 130794.

250ml. Pours chestnut with a low, fine, unbudging beige head. Attractive, mushy aroma; fig and muscovado-sprinkled dried fruits; a sweet, saline note like cooked mussel meat; bittering herbs (fenugreek), battered sausage (pronounced). It’s probably all sugar-derived. Flavour is slick and fruity with peppery alcohol, ground Indian seeds, dessicated coconut, figgy notes- rich, drinkable and sneakingly complex. Can feel the alcohol on the tongue but not in the flavour. A minor beauty. And something of a surprise. If it’s one of the most disgusting beers you’ve ever had, drink more beers. A world of disappointment awaits.

Near black colored with red hints, little beige head. Sweet and licoricy, well roasted aroma, also dark fruity, even raisinny-plummy note comes up strongly. Medium bodied. Flavor is more roasted with dry palate, some cardboard here as well. Aftertaste is licoricy with slight and warming alcohol, good beer this is.

Bottled@Chriso’s "Donkey Dork Lord" pre-gbbf shindig. Ambery brown colour with a mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is quite malty, mildly leathery, some toasted notes along with burnt sugar and some slight chocolaty notes. Flavour is very similar with also some slight notes of alcohol noteable. Rather pleasantly balanced.

Bottled, labels said 7.7% ABV. I saw this beer so many times in shops but I just couldn’t buy it. More InBev crap I was thinking. But man I was wrong. This actually is a very nice, complex and well balanced beer. Sweet aroma, raisin, banana. Dark brown color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, butterscotch, chocolate, nice bitterness and lots of banana in the finish. Full and a little warming. Yummy.
